CDFC 2024

I guess their is lots to talk about, Thommo just finished a Facebook Q & A session.

Thought he spoke pretty well and was refreshingly honest even if it was a lot of soft questions, as it should of been.

Talked about aiming at top 3

Talked about players being more versatile

Mentioned recruiting wasn’t done just yet but we most likely won’t see Westoff or Varcoe. Dropped Riley Knights as an example about delisted AFL blokes getting another crack at an AFL club which sparked some interest as to whether his on our radar.

Expects to see Menzels back but never went as far to say as they are 100% definites.

Talked about a more direct style, less chipping sidewards.

It’ll spin a few of them out that’s for sure, especially those within a 10 km radius of Elizabeth oval

Eagles approached them but Troy seems to be 100% staying, Dan a little iffy but friends of his have told me he's staying.
Time will tell.

If they do go as supporters we have every right to be spewing .If they are only interested in money then all the talk about loving the club is rubbish and if they want to be money hungry then we will lose them.Secondly where are the Eagles getting all this money from, with allegedly a lower salary cap

Granty has said that if Dan is all about the money then he would gladly let him go,
we don't have a lot to throw around now, with the salary cut, especially on a player toward the end of his playing career & one that is susceptible to injuries.

Interesting to know why we would have salary cap pressure when comparing our list to others. Our team is a very young list with a lot of home grown talent and not a lot of ex AFL players who appear to demand the most money. If we are paying our squad the exact same as Eagles, North, Glenelg we have some severly over paid footballers.

I agree with Grantys assessment though on Dan. Whilst it would be great to have Dan i wouldn't be selling the house for him either. Injuries have never been kind to him and his definitely at the end of his career. I guess it depends on how you look at it, kind of feels like what ever you pay Dan is for a package deal and you get Troy. Would be interesting to see if one would stay if the other left.

If i had a choice and could only afford one i would rather invest in Riley Knight than Dan Menzel personally.

In this case, it may be West who are making the play on Dan (in particular).

We talk about it just being "only the money", but in the case of Daniel, like Gibbs, he is fresh out of the AFL system and it isnt easy to find a job without any experience in any trade or profession.
Maybe we dont have to feel sorry for their plight, but its a reality that to suddenly find yourself at 30yo and unemployed with no likely prospects, its no wonder they are looking to get the best deal they can.
And often it isnt the money, but the role they want (as with Gibbs and the Development Role he has taken).

Rest assured though, the Dogs WANT Dan to play and are working very hard to make things fit.

It's interesting that at Centrals we have seemed to really struggle in recent years with finding players decent jobs. Throughout the 2000's this didn't seem to be an issue.

Slightly left field thought but is the quickest way for us to return to being top of the table looking for club sponsors who can provide players with decent job opportunities the number one priority. Easier said then done i know.
