Got a few deliveries of "Hello Fresh" and was most impressed, I still use the recipes but don't get the deliveries.

Yeah we've done that a bit, they have some great meals

Hello Fresh is good, but we found it far too time consuming, we do Dinnerly now, just for myself and the wife and we do 4 meals per week on it. Much faster with far less prep time than Hello Fresh.

Give MMC a go sometime bud, 1:30 in the micro and they're done and seriously tasty - Massive range of dishes too. Got a mate who was a Chef and also runs a gym and absolutely swears by them being exceptional on both fronts.

Low and Slow BBQ Port Adelaide

To celebrate completing another lap around the sun I managed to convince the non meat eater of the house to head here.

Walk in and you are instantly hit with the smokey smells of wood fired BBQ and friendly staff.

Seated and drinks order taken like most people you stare at the menu for hours in the lead up to your visit. You know what you want before even leaving home. Only need to finalise the side selection. Given it was Thanksgiving week in the US a chicken special was offered. Half a chook with a southern spice rub and a white BBQ sauce which is what those southern US folk smother their chicken with.

Surprise of the evening as we went to confirm the food that they had catered for the vegetarian of the group with a range of BBQ vegetable sliders. Eggplant, Mushroom and leak. Meat was Brisket and the kransky sasauge. Sides potato salad, coleslaw and a mac and cheese.

Food arrived quickly as almost everything can be prepared before they open. Brisket did not require a knife sausage juicy helped by the ooze of melted cheese.

Cheesecake special to finish, it changes every week this one was Oreo based.

Big tick for the vego sliders as it means given the plenty of warning and they will oblige and I can visit more often.

Lone Star Rib House, Port Adelaide Plaza

Like most American themed rib joints there's lots of horns and chequered decor around the place giving it the full Yanky Doodle Dandy vibe.

Seated in a booth for 4 ( there was 4 of us ) and being a larger mammal I'm immediately uncomfortable as the table and my thickness don't agree with each other. My fault for drinking too much and exercising too little.

Ruby, who is clearly on her first shift is completely overwhelmed by our first drinks order "Two One Fifty Lashes" I say, taking care of myself and my mate "Is that red or white?" she says. Oh dear.

The wife and Mrs Mate order a bottle of rose, or, as Ruby says "Rose" = flower. "Do you want two glasses?" "No" I say "just one and a straw please". Ruby writes down...."Kidding, two glasses"

We look over the menu and I decide upon the steak and rib combo, Ruby tells me the steak is 250gm and there's 600gms of ribs. Hmm. Seems a lot.

Out it comes and yes, it would have been 250gm of steak cooked perfectly medium well with some really good chips and what I suspect was Coles coleslaw. The ribs, pork with bbq sauce, well, it wasn't 600gm. I'd say a full rack would be 600gm, I had 3 ribs with little meat on them. What was there was good however.

In short, $40 for the steak and ribs, $9 for the James Squires and the 4 of us end up with a bill of $280. I'm not going to say it wasn't good, it was pretty good, I'm not going to say it was too expensive because steak, ribs and a few beers for $70 ( thereabouts ) isn't bad but I wouldn't say it was value for money.

Food 8/10
Service 5/10
Value for money 4/10

Late call at around 6:30 Saturday night to go out for a feed, off we head.

We went to the new Mosaic to give that a go, no good, booked out. Called the Woodville, booked out. Called the Admiral, yep. Said to Mrs and Miss, "The Bartley?". Sure. "Hey Google, call the Bartley Tavern"

Yeah, can we get in for 3 people?

LOL, yeah, that won't be a problem.

Should have been alarm bells.

Roll into the car park around 6:50, it's empty. Bar some around the back for the sports bar / pokies, the place is dead. Go into the bistro, of the 100 odd chairs in there 4 have arses on them. Should have been alarm bells.

Miss went the beef burger, stodgy, gristley, might have been made with the burger binding powder stuff. She ate 20% of the burger itself, most of the bun and salad.

Mrs went the "half" beef schnitzel, dry inside, oily outside, chips under the schnitty, salad looked like it was yesterdays. Ate probably half of it.

I went the "full" slow roasted pork, it was roast pork, but not as you know it, I got two lumps of meat about the size of your fist, not sliced neatly, just two big chunks. Roast spuds, over done, roast carrot, under done, bowl of salad ( WTF? ) covered in vinaigrette that was 80% vinegar and 20% grette. Couldn't be eaten.

Service - 4/10, young chick would have killed to be anywhere else.
Food - 1/10, it was shit.
Over all rating - Don't go there.

For some reason the Bartley was the go-to place for Crows Supporter Group pre-season and post-season gatherings. Never understood why as the food was at best, average, and at times, borderline inedible.

First time I went there, got a chicken schnitzel, and it was undercooked. That's Caffe Primo levels of badness there.

Next food times food was unremarkable, Last time I went there I ordered the laksa. It was the worst laksa I've ever had - had this awful stench to it. Picked at it for a bit before the stench made it inedible.

One good thing about COVID is that the Bartley couldn't accommodate them for their end of season dinner this year.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Pretty much mate, had some bad news from the Doc, no alcohol, no red meat and a heap more other directives.

Been nearly two weeks now, I'm starting to get used of a new lifestyle, gym each morning, 7.5km walk/run every afternoon with a very healthy eating regime, seafood or chicken are my only meat options. Have lost 4.5 kg's over the past few weeks, I had an inkling so I was on the front foot early.

I'm trying to find a positive out of a negative.

Shit!
I hope all is good moving forward.
Good food and exercise can only be a good thing though.

When they were handing out bad luck for 2020 you must have been front and centre mate?
Been an ordinary year for you.

Yeah, a bit of a kick in the guts as now I have to see a heart specialist too, I didn't mind a Saturday arvo having the smoker cook an array of meats while downing some beers and having a punt, I guess it all caught up with me, I didn't realize how bad I was, I thought I was in decent nick.

I'm looking at the financial benefits now to find a positive spin, I'm feeling way better already and in a great routine so I'm sure my next set of tests in the new year will bring a pleasant surprise to the Doctor and myself.

The weirdest part is that I have drank nothing but water for nearly two weeks, I've even canned the soft drinks, I've never been a fan of drinking water but it seems to be working for me.
