If the commentators didn't mention it could you honestly tell or would it impact your experience watching whether they bowled 14 overs in the hour or 12.

To be honest I don't mind if it takes longer, means I get to keep the tv remote for longer and can scrape a few odd jobs in between without missing too much.

But seriously do you actually sit there getting frustrated because one over took 4:30 to be bowled not 4:10.

It's a big deal when the last few tinnies are pushing hard on your bladder

Nah its amazing now. you can go to the pisser, get a beer, chat up a bird on the way back and only miss a couple of balls :)

When watching live I use to miss 90% of the wickets taken now that's down to about to 5% haha.

You could just about knock the top off between deliveries.

Does it really matter if the bowler oversteps by 2 cms?

Does it really matter if the batsman is 5 cms short of his ground?

Does it really matter if you're driving 10 kmh over the speed limit in the city and hit someone?

Does it really matter if your pay is 5% short one payday?

Of course it f***N matters !!!!!!!!!!!!! as does the pathetic slow over rates that the players and captains simply dont GAF about !!!!!!
Bowl 89 overs in a day instead of 90 and that 1 over is lost to the match !!!
Do that over 4 days and thats 4 overs lost to the game
There would have been results of Test matches over history that would have been different if there were an extra 4 overs available.

Agree that half the blokes that just go to the cricket to get shitfaced couldn';t GAF if any cricket was played but those that go to watch it get FO  when they're consistently see unnecessary delays taking place and players just ambling around in no rush

Absolutely it does. They'd bowled 25 at lunch yesterday and 50 by dinner, meaning they had 40 to bowl in the last session and they went half hour over and still were 1 short. Play goes for 6 hours. 15 overs an hour. It's not hard.

I'm not saying slow over rates are not important I just think there is so many more things wrong with the game rather than something 99.9% of fans wouldn't even be able to tell is happening. Like legit who sits at a game and watches the scoreboard as to how many overs are bowled in an hour and then is disgusted by it.

For me much greater concerns are things that 100% affect my enjoyment of watching the game:
-Tiny little piddly ovals
-Bats that allow for complete miss hits to carry the boundary
-pitches that offer absolutely nothing
-Batsmen in general that cant concentrate for more than five overs and try and play test cricket like a t20.
-Not taking India to the pitches that would be hardest for them to compete in
-Worst level of commentary we have had in fifty years. Game is almost impossible to watch with the sound up.

I would happily give up one over a day to see those other points changed.

Bit like a Central’s timekeeper in the 80’s during a reserves game in the last minor round game of the season? ;)

Precisely. For most of the history of test cricket this was not an issue. You'd practically never need to go even a minute over time.

My solution: bring back 8-ball overs. 22 per session. Less time spent changing ends. It shouldn't be necessary as 15 overs in an hour is not difficult, but this is not the time for rational solutions!!

Just get on with it! The onus is on the umpires to tell the players to get on with it. Then, if they don't, the match referee can start throwing out suspensions that are significant enough to shake the players into action.

My idea? Cut lunch to 30 minutes and tea to 15. Gain 25 minutes a day.

1. When was the last time an Australian umpire had a Test match in their own country?

2. When was the last time we had 2 Australian umpires in the same match?

My guess would be over 10 years, and maybe nearly twenty years for second question.

1. Harper @SCG 2002 v Sth Africa

2. Hair/Prue @AO 1994 v Sth Africa

32 years ago I was playing under 14's for Elizabeth District vs Port Adelaide and we had Daryl Harper umpiring, he had a pocket full of barley sugar lollies that he was sharing with me after each over I bowled, I walked past him and he whispered "Drop one in short", so I did right at throat, he said to drop another one in short as I walked back to my mark, so I did, the third time he says "Now for the yorker", which I did and bowled the lad, he had a bit of rye smile going on.
The next week we met at the club and was watching the shield game on TV before we headed off and there he was doing the shield game, I'm not sure if it was his debut game but I kept a keen interest in his career following that.
I wish he had've been there for week 2 as I had one of my most memorable days of cricket, which was unusual as most of highlights reel would be with the ball.

I wonder if Ricky Ponting and Peter Lalor will both be commentating together today. Conversation was very frosty yesterday and without seeing the body language, it's hard to know how Ponting really felt. It seemed like he was really pissed off with Lalor.

Great morning by the aussie so far. Normally would have us well on top but who knows with our batting line up.

Has worked out perfectly that we can start our innings in the daytime.

I hope so. That was the highlight of the day yesterday. Be good to have a camera in the box like they do with the Big Bash. Ponting would have given him a verbal barrage at the end of play last night if he saw him I reckon.
