Round 1 in the TVCA saw Eden Valley thump Gumeracha by 60 runs in an upset, Lenswood snuck home against a depleted Palmer, while Birdwood made just 44 against Cambrai, the Skunks having no troubles chasing that down.

Despite the opening loss Gumeracha appear well positioned to defend their title with all-rounder and former SA Outbacks member Cam Sumner returning. Palmer appear a little weaker with Woollard at Aldgate and few others reportedly not playing. Cambrai will be around the mark again, while Paracombe sat out Round 1 with a bye so not sure how they are looking. From the teams who missed finals last year, Lenswood are weaker on paper while Eden Valley have a few Barossa recruits and have started well. Birdwood to win another spoon.

Mt Torrens dropped down to the B Grade, in which they'll push for a flag. Expect the usual suspects of Gumeracha, Paracombe and Cambrai to also contend, while the likes of Palmer, Birdwood and the two Lenswood sides may struggle a bit.

Juniors wise, only Lenswood (combined 16s with Lobey, stand alone 14s, combined 12s with Birdwood, stand alone 10s) and Birdwood (combined 14s with Lobey, combined 12s with Lenswood) appear to be fielding teams, if you don't include Springton who have a 12s and 10s. Been a pleasing result at Lenswood to get 25+ junior players this season.

After playing the opening 2 games for Strath, Matt Hein has walked out from them and joined his brother at Nairne
Interesting :?

Didn't have to wait long to take on his old team with Nairne prevailing easily over Strath .
With Woodside Thrashing Lobethal and Creeks easily beating Hahndorf this leaves the Creeks as the only undefeated team after 4 rounds.
A position they'd be extremely happy with as they've played all the Big Guns apart from Lobey and have a perceived soft run of games ahead to give them a big chance to set their season up after being generally slow starters

Been pretty quiet on here, but it’s roughly half way through the TVCA season

Gumeracha (7W, 1D, 1L)- Their flag to lose. The return of C. Sumner has provided another quality all rounder.
Eden Valley (5-2-2)- Should break a long finals drought. Some handy recruits from the Barossa.
Palmer (5-1-3)- Will miss Woollard come finals time but doing enough to stay in the hunt
Cambrai (3-2-3)- Up and down season but at their best can beat anybody in the comp
Lenswood (3-2-4)- Best all-rounder departing 3 weeks in was a hurdle, batting has been a concern
Paracombe (1-2-5)- Lack punch with the ball, top order not making the runs of past seasons
Birdwood (0-2-6)- Another spoon seems highly likely.

In the B grade Mt Torrens have been dominant as many predicated. Half their team are more than capable at A Grade level but attitude was questionable the past few years. Cambrai will be their biggest threat, while Eden Valley will also play finals. Paracombe and the two Lenswood sides to fight out for 4th spot. Reigning champs Gumeracha have struggled with a very different looking line up this year, while Palmer and Birdwood will battle for the spoon.

Can anybody comment on how the HCA clubs have adjusted to all one-dayers? Meadows don’t seem quite as dominant as a result perhaps.

Not involved in HCA but looks like that might the case. How many comps have 2 dayers left these days? I loved them personally so was always keen to play them but know I was definitely in the minority there.

Shorter formats will theoretically bring teams closer together
Good to see Meadows havn't been as dominant this year.
Not great that one team dominates for 10 years tho credit to them
Good to see Kangy have moved up the ranks with a committed group of juniors over the last half dozen years now integrating into their A Grade and together with a few experienced players it's paying dividends

Meyer Shield Day one:

AEHCA 7/193 def TVCA 123
HCA 4/133 (31.4) def MTCA 8/132
GSCA 7/169 def KICA 131

Disappointing final result/margin for TVCA after having AEHCA 4/47 in their dig.

Because the HCA asked if they we're keen and they were, bit like Basket Range & Lenswood playing in the AEH T20 comp in recent years

TVCA finals:

Gumeracha (1) v Eden Valley (4)
Palmer (2) v Cambrai (3)

Gum had lost 3 in a row before a final round win against Paracombe. EV are playing A Grade finals for the first time since…?? Certainty the first time I can remember in the past 20+ years. They have knocked off Gum twice this season so will fancy their chances. Unlike the other comps, no second chance for the top 2 sides.
Palmer and Cambrai have a habit of meeting in finals, with the Bears always winning. A few injury concerns coming into finals for both teams. Tough one to call.

If it rains the top 2 sides will progress. No back up day for Semis, despite the farce a couple of years ago when the temp was 41 and games were abandoned.

Lenswood finished 5th, didn’t make enough runs and lost too key many players from last season. Paracombe ended 6th, struggled to get their best team on the park. Birdwood endured a winless season and collected another spoon. Would hate to think how many games they have won in past 6-7 years, no more than 3-4.

In the B Grade, Mt Torrens will start favourites against Paracombe, while Eden Valley and Cambrai meet in the other semi. Given they have basically their A Grade team from recent years Mt Torrens should win the flag, Cambrai the best of the rest.

The two Lenswood sides finished 5th and 6th and blooded plenty of youth, perennial premiers Gumeracha had a year to forget in 7th, Palmer and Birdwood struggled for most of the season but both have some youngsters coming through.

Good call

In all seriousness good luck to lofty, meadows would be strong favourites but lofty have some quality and you never know in the one day format as all it takes is one bloke to have a day out.

Gumeracha v Palmer in the TVCA A Grade GF. Third season in a row they have met, and 5 of past 8 (-|

Mt Torrens v Cambrai in the B's. Hopefully Cambrai win so the flag goes to a genuine B Grade side.
