Warner, Pucovski and Abbott added to the squad for the third test - Burns dropped.

You’d think it spells bad news for Head also.

I’ve been thinking.. where does this sudden love for Wade come from, and rate him? I’ve heard people say he’s got a hard nosed approach and he knuckles down.. that’s waft. He has played one innings in that fashion - second innings of the recent test with his 40.

His first innings was almost a run a ball 30 before throwing away, first rest second innings a quick fire 30 chasing a modest total - first innings a scratchy slow 8.

Working backwards - NZ 22 off 32, 38 off 78, 30 off 54, 12 off 26, 17 off 52.

Given how bad Burns and Head have been, Wade’s stats actually look good!

I think so.

Warner and Pucovski for Burns and head.

I wonder if they are tempted to play the 2nd spinner as well. Green can easily hold his own as the 3rd seamer.

Interesting to listen to cricket podcasts in recent days in the washup of the boxing day test. Some opinions from past players and leading cricket journalists. It's a bit of mixed messaging in my opinion with some experts saying Australia had poor run rate against the Indian bowlers and then they talk about poor shot selection or players either needing to play their natural game to succeed etc.

Opinions on Travis Head range from Dean Jones commenting to one of the experts before his passing that Head should move NSW to improve his game. Toughen him up in a more challenging system.
Head's a walking wicket where India aren't worried by him as they can get him out easily.
Ed Cowan think he needs to go back to Shield cricket and re-invent himself as a cricketer. He gets out too many different ways and his lack of tough first innings runs in shield cricket is a black mark against his name among other points made.
Success is in trying

Wade has played a dozen or so games since returning to the test side as a batter and would be averaging low 30s. Even with the two tons in England he averaged only 30 for that series. After 31 tests now he averages just 31, at what point is he just not quite good enough? Head on the other hand while he has flaws outside that off stump has averaged 40 and is also 7 years the Junior of Wade. Why would anyone drop Head and keep Wade?

Also remember Wade didnt start out as a dedicated batsman.
Went back to shield.
Batted higher up the order and made runs.
Not his fault the juniors in the country are shizen.

Wade's shot in the first innings of a test match should be a career-ender.

A ridiculous brain implosion from a 33 year old?

That it's not a career-ender is a sign of how limited our batting stocks are at present.

Would be wrong to pick Pucovski at the moment unfortunately. Did anyone see him get hit in the Aus A game? He somehow knelt down to play a shovel, look-away pull shot. Hit flush on the head. Has a serious problem with playing the short ball and would be targeted mercilessly. Needs to to get both his health and technique right IMHO.

Bumrah will hit Pukovski in the head, no doubt about it, last bloke you want to face with a weakness for the short ball.

As for Mt79 saying Wade shows fight, is that because he is also horrendous at playing the short ball and lets it hit him? Because what i see is as Tony says, that shot in the 1st innings should have his card stamped NTBPA. Far worse than Damien Martyns that saw him exiled for 6 years

Sounds like Mr Warner is not 100% fit which is a bit of a worry. Tbe selectors seem to be happy to wear the risk, but he wouldn't want to break down early in the game and leave tbe Aussies one short. Sounds a bit harsh, but at least with Pucovski, if he gets a knock in the head they can sub him out. Aussies playing with fire if they pick either Warner or Pucovski.

Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw and Navdeep Saini have been placed in isolation as a precaution pending investigation into a video posted on Twitter that purportedly showed the group eating in an indoor restaurant in Melbourne. The players will be allowed to continue training but not with the rest of the group.

The statement released by Cricket Australia said the action was taken in consultation with both the boards' medical units but didn't expressly state if it was a breach of biosecurity protocols to eat at an indoor venue outside the team hotel. Nor did it say what the course of action will be if it is indeed a breach of protocols.

A Twitter post by a fan of Indian origin claimed he had spotted the five India players eating at the same restaurant as him. He said he had paid for the cricketers' food unbeknownst to them. An initial tweet claimed that Pant hugged the fan when he found out that the food had been paid for, but that tweet was retracted later, with the fan stating that Pant never hugged him, and that he had gotten carried away in excitement when tweeting previously.

Well he looks like he's been in a fair paddock since India were last in Australia.
