Testing my memory here MT.

Played Oakbank once I reckon in a pennant match, probably 15 years ago. Can't recall any of the holes, it was also June/July, so it was a touch damp.

I will let you know after we tear it up next Sunday.

Its a ripper, enjoy. Id suggest practicing your punch shots if the wind is up, have hit 5 irons from 110m out there before!

South Lakes - Goolwa

Round $50
Cart $30

Firstly, it would never be a calm day at South Lakes but, Friday it was blowing harder than a Lewinsky in the Oval office. Howling. Didn't help this bloke who plays a handful of times a year ( certainly not often enough ) off the tee ( when it got in the air ).

We'll ignore how I played and focus on the course for a moment.

If you're a sub-20 handicap player this course would be very "getable" for you. It's not overly long, it's open with not very much by way of dead ground ( trees / shrubs ) lining the fairways. There are however several lakes around the course as well as some strategically placed bunkers on fairways and protecting greens. It's flat, open and when you're not on the fairways it's a mix of flat, hard low cut brown or undulating areas around fairway bunkers.

For someone, as noted above, who doesn't play often enough my 112 could easily have been sub-100 as I blew my short game up with several bladed wedges over the back or duffed short. Throw in two balls in the lake on the 17th tee ( I'd not lost a ball until then ) and a couple of topped tee shots ( all symptomatic of not playing enough ) I think I could eliminate several of those shots and even in the trying conditions a double digit score would be there for the taking.

If you play enough to have an official handicap you'd get this course. It's pretty flat and would be an easy walk, I'd say give it a go.

Oakbank.

Played with Son and his mate, we hit off this morning around 7.00am. It was warm.

It’s a 9 hole affair, with different tees which don’t make all that much difference to be fair, between the front and back nine.

Opening hole a 125m up hill par 3. Son knocks it on, I push it right, he pars, I bogey. 1 down after one. It was warm.

Second hole, son spanks driver down the middle, with a nice little draw, if you don’t mind. 2 down after 2 holes. It was still a little warm.

I then woke up, and peeled off 4 pars in a row to get to 1 up. By this stage, it was ******* hot.

What happened on the short par 3 8th was a disgrace.... I missed the green right by maybe, 15 meters..... OOB. It was still a bit warm, cloud had rolled in.

Son leading by 4 shots through the front nine holes, he went out in 43 to my 47.

The back nine was tight, I got it back to a one shot deficit, only for Son to steady, and smash drives down the middle, to beat this silly old fart comfortably... must say it hurt a bit at first. But pleased to see him not only enjoying the game, but start to look ok.

I finished 5 shots adrift, as he carded a 92.... Byrne time we finished it was ******* hot..... straight to the bar for me.

In terms of a course, it’s nothing to rave about. That said it beat me, I was poor today. That’s golf.

Did I mention the heat?

The summer twilight tour continued at the Vines last night, pissing down with rain all arvo but it stopped to a trickle just as we teed off for 9. By the first green it started bucketing down again  proceeded to par the 2nd and 3rd in the rain and thought it was actually helping me, game then fell apart.

Last 4 holes were in the dry thankfully. Course in really good nick and greens the best Ive seen them. We wanted to go to Blackwood but was closed for obvious reasons.

Played in a two man ambrose yesterday at Berri. We were 5 under after 9 holes and ended up 3 under for the day. Front 9 we could do no wrong but ended up 2 over on the back 9. Love playing Ambrose. Good fun.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

So Lady Bay yesterday...

No expectations as havent had too many swings in recent times.

Started off very rusty, so no surprises there.
Lost a couple of balls, but thats just cos i dont look too hard for them.
We may have inadvertently been playing off the blue tees and not the whites[emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]
Couple of highlights, finally got a swing with the Driver which certainly worked a treat with a handy 295m drive on the 10th...helps its all downhill but it had beautiful tour player launch angle!
And a birdie putt on the 15th par 3. Landed on right edge of green, flag was tucked behind a bunker so played to the right side.
Putt had to go uphill and then dropped left and downhill and thank allah the flag was there to stop it!!!!
Greens felt a little slow when hitting uphill, really needed to bash it...
Bunkers are fine, found a few of them and got out comfortably. Probably my fav bunkers ive played in.
Ended with 25pts but was chopping and changing shit all day long so im happy with that.
Still love it as a course.Image

I played at Tanunda today. Was in good nick greens quickened up as the day went on. Looks like they have just changed the layout of the hole numbers.

Definitely wasnt my best round. I had alot of wayward tee shots which resulted in alot of recovery 2nd shots out of trees. My approach shots was
my strength today so that was a positive, starting to hit my 60 degree good. Definitely need alot of work on my long irons and Driver, still topping and chunking more than id like to do.

Popped down and played 9 at North Haven with Junior yesterday and the course was not packed but more than busy. We got there at 9:30 and got away clean but had a group in front and behind us all the way around.

Now, for $17 for 9 holes and walking up without a booking you get what you pay for, but the course is in really poor shape. It's well groomed as in the fairways and 1st and 2nd cut of rough are short and manageable but the only green stuff to hit off starts about 100-120m from the tee and in most places is on 15-25m wide so it's pretty tough going if you want to stay on the good stuff. Outside that while there's grass there and it's mowed it's brown and hard on the 1st / 2nd cut then just turns to sandy shit beyond that.

It's privately owned so it's clear money is the deciding factor. As noted it's well mowed so someone is doing some work around there, if they just included some dragging out of hoses and whacking a sprinkler on the end it would be far more enjoyable.

Enjoyed it as I beat junior and he had to buy the beers afterwards but the course could be looked after better.
