That's my take. Ponting not a great captain for mine. Absolute ball chaser. Waugh didn't need to captain with that side. Chappelli the stand out on and off the field an absolute players' man. Tubby very astute, AB the iconic figure but let the game drift at times, Clarke imaginative and severely underrated as a captain, Yallop a clear standout as the worst Hughes and Paine a real worry but at least Hughes faced absolute champion teams.

Graham Yallop was handed the poisonous challis and never stood a chance, him and Ian Chappell were before my time to form judgement.

I just wasn't a Taylor fan, I think I found him a bit selfish in the way he continually captained and opened in the ODI's despite being Boycott-like at scoring along with playing on too long despite being out of form, the big 334* brought him more time, he had plenty of lean periods.

Each to their own I guess.[/quote]
Hard to rate Yallop and Hughes fairly. Yallop captained a 3rd XI during World Series days and Hughes captained an Australian team that had a stack of returning WSC players. He never got any respect from those players.

Why do the broadcasters think it is entertaining for us to listen in on the dribble that comes from Labuschagne, Paine and Pant?

That was of the worst overs in test cricket history. I reckon the last Aussie bowler to go for 20 runs off an over in Tests was Bryce McGain

Cricket is a selfish sport.. especially if you're a batsman.

My money would be with the Indians from here... one thing i think is certain - the Aussies cant win.

Paine lacks creativity as a captain and the bowling has been questionable with the exception of Cummins.

What? If only we had someone steely in our line up, he's as boring as batshit but he's f****** us over this summer.

I admire him even more that he has no interest in IPL, just wants to represent his country at test level.

Yallop was very unlucky - in charge of a 3rd rate Aust team that was competing against the Australian World Series Cricket team as well as England and Pakistan (for one test at the MCG when Sarfraz took 7-1 to ruin Aust on the last day). Yallop had Hogg in his team who once had figures of 2/2 after 4 overs and refused to bowl anymore in that spell so Yallop got ridiculed by the press for removing Hogg from the attack. England in 78/79 against Yallop were captained by an excellent skipper in Mike Brearley and contained top notch Test players like Gooch, Botham, Gower, Boycott, Willis etc while Yallop had Carlson, Laughlin, Toohey to help him out. The team that Allan Border inherited in the mid 80s was far better than Yallop's 78/79 squad but Yallop to his credit after he lost the captaincy was mentally strong enough to regain his Test spot in with the returning WSC players and ultimately produced a fine Test career for himself.
