This is the link for the whole game and you have to "fast forward" to 2:51:20 to see it. Fair piece of fielding by the way.

Cheers $1.30, yes, very ugly and pretty slick fielding.

Off topic a bit, is it the norm to share drink bottles again now? Just a little something I noticed.

Not supposed to be sharing drink bottles. Have noticed few clubs got bit slack in this area too.

MERGER CONFIRMED!!!!

From 2021/22 The new team will be know as the Adelaide Stingrays, following the merger of Adelaide and Southerns.

The club will be based out of Glandore, Bice Oval will no longer feature A/B grade district Cricket.

The new club will enter 8 junior teams, two per grade, filling what would otherwise be the Adelaide Uni juniors spot, meaning we have aligned junior and senior fixtures.

SACA will provide the new club with funding for 2 cricket development officers, one of which must be juniors, for the next three years, estimated to be valued at a little over $300,000.

With respect to seniors, the club is expected to enter 4 SACA teams, with a 5ths and 6ths to be played in the ATCA competition, although ATCA are yet to confirm they will accept these sides.

The club will search for a new base over the coming seasons, with SACA having made a 'handshake commitment' to fund the new facility which will be constructed on a greenfields site, North of Darlington.

This merger will be confirmed at 4pm this afternoon, but you can say you heard it here first!!!

No, they will have two teams in each comp. When Seniors play Adelaide Uni, the juniors play the second Stingrays team. Makes lining up the Seniors and Juniors draw very easy.

Nope, 12 senior clubs.
11 junior clubs (IE: no Adelaide Uni) + "B-grades" double up from the Adelaide Stingrays

Good for grade cricket! Little surprised by it being Adelaide & Southerns - would never have picked that!

Same, fair carrot though.

Southern and Elizabeth both got accepted into the A grade in around 92-93 IIRC, Elizabeth lasted about 2 or 3 seasons before merging with Salisbury, Southern have done well, mind you, they had a big area to canvas from and a fair home ground advantage IMO.

Bit shocked too.

Appears a bit of a takeover by Adelaide on the surface.

Interesting timing of announcement, with both teams playing each other this weekend. Should make for some interesting banter  :D

The thing that I think will be the most interesting to watch play out is how the 'seconds' juniors teams go.
Filling the bye from Adelaide Uni is great, however how long before kids who are playing in the B-grade teams get fed up with it.

The new club will no doubt try and tell them they are equals, not name them A and B, etc, but ultimately if you're playing in the team that aligns with Adelaide's seniors, you're going to feel like you're more apart of the club than the kids who are playing in the team that aligns with Adelaide Uni's opponents.

I get the impression that in a few years time, they'll drop the additional juniors sides.
If they manage to retain them, and have double the kids coming through to the seniors compared with the 11 other clubs, they could become quite strong.

That could part of the motive. Reading between the lines from the communications during the off-season I don't think off field was looking great for one of them.

Guess that is part of the negotiations. But if you just go the the 4 junior sides you run the risk of political interference in selecting the squads. Plus it helps SACA out with a bye in the juniors.

Hopefully, one more merger to happen - This is great that this happens and I have been an advocate of shrinking the number of clubs for a long time.
It Will be interesting to see if the reduction of side comes into this as well ie removal of 4th grade etc

Dont be surprised if Reynella start circling a few of the Southerns boys trying to get them to come and play A1 cricket instead

The key will be the "new facility". Should it end up being excellent quality AND near the exits of the Southern Expressway near Darlington, it could service the southern areas and still retain the old Adelaide CC strength - which has gradually drifted south over the years.

Why didn't the Elizabeth and Christies Beach/Noarlunga clubs work for cricket - but did for football? Despite a Southerns A Grade Premiership not long ago.

Thoughts with the Southerns and Adelaide Cricket Clubs - hopefully it will work out well for them.

Elizabeth should've been based in Gawler for it to be viable, they were a really strong ATCA club and had a great junior program, they were too close to Salisbury though geographically, throw in TTG, Prospect and East Torrens then it makes it harder.

Used to love playing at Bice, had a bit of juice for the bowlers early, the ball swung a mile but had good bounce to bat on.
