Could all coaches please join the Hogg Shield 2021 Group. The code for this group is 401342. If we all join the group we can just go to SuperCoach to determine who has the overall Hogg bragging rights. ;)

Final seeded list Hogg Division I 2021.

1 The Far Callers Ron Burgundy
2 Buckets Buckets
3 The Willies brod
4 Crowmagnon David James
5 Chops Clots David Brent
6 Adelaide Crows Raymond
7 Porter Guns Unky B
8 Jays Jocks Jason
9 Cowpokes Alaska Jnr
10 DAISYS DUDS daysofourlives
11 Petracca's Picnic Cub
12 Professor Crow SCD
13 Pool Swimmers Tom
14 Magpie Mafia Ross
15 Jims TigerRoos Jim R
16 Hawkers Arch44
17 Coro Crocs Alaska
18 cobras Dale G

For some strange reason I just couldn't give away that last spot in Hogg Division I despite sending out about ten promotion invitations. In the end the race went to the quickest, Petracca's Picnic who took the last spot and slotted in at eleven in the seeded list. Other new teams came in right at the top. Buckets (THE FOG last year) will resume their rivalry with Chops Clots and the Far Callers. Crowmagnon is a mate of Ross (Magpie Mafia) Weeding and they have a three man posse in the Hogg this year. This is going to be a much tougher league than last year I feel. The Willies are another team who had a great year last season that somehow failed to flag up despite winning 13 straight in Divvy III last year. It's going to be a hot one boyos!

Hogg Division I Preview 2021

This looks like a pretty evil league to me and one I believe will challenge Premier League as the highest ranked Hogg League this season. The quality of the league has improved immensely as several mid ranked and non competitive sides have been replaced by some of the absolute best scorers from Division II and Division III last season.

The Far Callers top the scoring but I'm not prepared to punt them as the premier here because Ron Burgundy would have to make Hogg history to win this flag. The Farcs have won back to back flags and are going for a hat trick to win which would be an awesome way to qualify for Hogg Premier. Point being, the Farcs could have a great year and somehow go backwards. The competition here is intense. The top five sides are all blow-ins and for me one side that bares watching is Buckets who are my tip for this premiership and to spoil Ron's party. The Willies somehow lost the unloseable premiership in Division III last year so they might actually be better off if they drop the odd game early instead of winning 13 straight and not giving a yelp when it matters. Besides, that job in this league is taken by DAISY.

The existing coaches from Div I last year that will challenge have both previously topped the scoring in the Hogg in Magpie Mafia and Adelaide Crows. The Mafia has been a massive hit in the Hogg but last year they were more miss than hit as they struggled to win matches. Anything close to a resumption of Ross' best form will see the Mafia once again back in town in their town cars. Porter Guns are another pensioner coach so look out for mad old Port fans with too much time on their hands. As for the Crows, last year Raymond turned back the clock after several quieter seasons and he will be a coach looking to move up in the world after returning to form last year.

As for stragglers this season, for me Cobras and Hawkers stand out for the wrong reason. After finishing 13th in the Piglet last season I'm not sure how the cobras managed to survive in Division I but Dale does not have the scoring power to remain in a league as strong as this one. Arch's Hawkers are also another soft touch up here with Clarkson's Hawks probably in line for a better year than Achie's fantasy version. I reckon Alaska's Coro Crocs probably deserve the benefit of the doubt to remain in this league but Jims TigerRoos appear to be caught on the hop and might struggle this year.

17 Hawkers 0 1 1929 2162 89.22 0
18 Jays Jocks 0 1 1880 2254 83.41 0

The colours of Jays Jocks were lowered spectacularly in the first round as the Pool Swimmers smashed Jay's boys for a resounded opening round win. There's nothing like starting the season off with a smashing and it's an unusual occurence at this level of the Hogg. Predicted strugglers Hawkers and Cobras started their year off with a loss as both sides were flogged mercilessly. Some other matches were a bit closer as Chops Clots just got by DAISY while Jims TigerRoos fell just twenty short of beating Divvy I newcomer Petracca's Picnic. The number one seed Far Callers laid their early marker for a promotion with another solid score which earnt them a first up win.

Former Premier League regular Alaska has climbed to the top of the Division I ladder but a quick look at the points for stat suggests that the Crocs are the side that isn't going to go on with it from here. While early wins means more than early scoring patterns Alaska would certainly be looking over his shoulder at consistent sides such as Willies and Buckets in particular, both sides who were predicted to have a good year in this division. Meanwhile, the Cub is enjoying his footy and his SuperCoach right now: The Demons are four-zip and his Petracca's Picnic combination just knocked the Pool Swimmers off the top of the ladder. The lad has never had it so good so could one of you blokes beat him if you don't mind as he is doing my head in.

Not a bad week to be in the eight as two very good sides were beaten. I expect Chops Clots and Far Callers to make the eight so now is the time to get the four points on the board. Nice work too by DAISY who gleefully put a newcomer in his place and the DUDS look right at home here and look set for a decent tilt at Premier League.

A few other teams are in a bit of bother already. Cobras somehow avoids relegation year after year and once again it looks as though he has the challenge ahead of him. Jays Jocks have hit rock bottom but have a history of climbing from the rear while Jims TigerRoos had a shocking loss to low scoring Hawkers in a result which could see Hawkers stay up while Jimbo goes down. Magpie Mafia and Cowmagnon are two sides who have dominated in lower grades but these two mates have yet to fire a shot in this league. Welcome to the NFL rookie.

DAISY fired a warning shot across the bow of the leading teams with an impressive 2314 which was too much for the struggling Adelaide Crows to cope with. This week saw a couple of the pre-season relegation fancies record wins with Hawkers going beautifully at the moment with 2270 and back to back wins as they now sit in the eight. Magpie Mafia are now in a spot of bother after losing a crucial match to Cobras who are normally one of the low scoring teams of the division. If you have any finals hopes at all in Division I you simply can’t be losing to the Snakes.

Coro Crocs looked possible pretenders after the first two games but got their scoring power happening with a fine win over Cowpokes to further boost the best percentage in the league. The Willies have had excellent minor round form over the past two seasons and that continued this round with the Professor not crowing at all. Porter Guns got a big scalp in the Far Callers who haven’t really got going this season while the Cub Petracca’s Picnic managed to remain unbeaten after a wobbly win over the last placed Jays Jocks. This was the closest match in what was a very lopsided round in which the winners were certainly grinners.

Jays Jocks pulled off the biggest boilover in the Hogg this season with a spectacular 359 point victory over previously unbeaten Willies. Willies had a massive implosion as the wheels well and truly fell off as one of the top sides lost to the stragglers Jay. It was an extremely costly loss for the Willies who dropped all the way down to 7th after the shock loss. There isn't much room for error in Division I and that loss could be a burr in the blanket all season for the Williams.

Another William is much happier. William Drexell, aka Porter Guns is top of the pops after teaching Professor Crow a lesson. Petracca's Picnic is humming along nicely as well as they too remain unbeaten and knocked the Hawkers out of the top eight. Even though these are the unbeaten sides perhaps the real threat is from DAISY who was pushed all the way by Cobras and Chops Clots who moved up a couple of spots after another win. Add in the return to form of The Far Callers and the continuing ongoing good form of Buckets and it's going to be a top minor round to see who can challenge for promotion.

Up here in Divvy I only two teams go down so you have to have a pretty poor year to face the drop. At the moment Magpie Mafia would have to improve significantly in order to have a pretty poor year as the Magpies can't seem to crack 2000 and have now lost matches to Cobras and Cowpokes so obviously they have much tougher challenges ahead. Adelaide Crows and Cobras are also in the gun but both of these teams scored well on the weekend with Cobras pushing the mighty DUDS all the way in their match. Cowpokes got the four points against the Mafia but on current form won't be troubling too many from here unless improvement comes.

Porter Guns stands alone as the only unbeaten side in the league after round 5 of Divvy I action which was SuperCoach hell for most of us. Porter Guns saw off a strong challenge from fellow contender Willies who drooped to 8th after not quite measuring up to the ladder leaders. Meanwhile Chops Clots ended Petracca's Picnic's unbeaten start to the season in another top eight clash. Cub's first loss of the year saw the Picnic drop down the table as they were bypassed by the impressive DAISY and Buckets teams.

The Far Callers were the most impressive team in the round for scoring as they heaped more misery on the struggling MAGPIE MAFIA who could not be more gawn if they grew a beard and put on a Melbourne jumper. Roscoe is in deep diggery doo and wouldn't he be just loving football about now? A few blokes who might be a bit happier would be Professor Crow, Pool Swimmers, Adelaide Crows and Jay Jocks who have turned things around a little with an important win this week. It was back to back wins for Jocks who were stone motherless a fortnight ago but are now circling the top eight although a date with Porter Guns awaits.

Divvy I has lifted it's game in recent weeks on and on rankings it has finally wriggled past Division II. DAISYSDUDS are looking very ominous indeed but don't worry fellow Div I coaches the wheels are likely to fall off for him in August. Mafia looks a Monty to take a one way ride and the Cobras are once again looking like they are headed for a relegation dog fight, most likely with the Cowpokes.

Ron Burgundy's Far Callers have announced themselves as a legitimate flag chance as they awoke from their early season slumber to trounce a previously red hot DAISYSDUDS in round 6 action. DAISY didn't go all that badly really but Far Callers 2349 would have cleaned up everyone except (Premier League) Ecky so not much DAISY could have done with the Farcs on fire. Another team on the move is Chops Clots who copped an early loss but haven't done that much wrong since as they smacked the hapless Hawkers.

The extremely consistent Porter Guns remained unbeaten as they ended the Jays Jocks resurgence while Petracca's Picnic won again in tight match while Buckets flogged the Cowpokes. The league as a whole is starting to really gear up now as eight of the losers managed over 2000 this week with Cobras being the most unfortunate. The Snakes desperately need a win to escape the drop zone but his 2214 wasn't enough to stop Jims TigerRoos whose 2304 was Jimbo's most impressive performance of the season.

Magpie Mafia remains stone motherless but at least Roscoe is scoring again but not enough to get him his first win. Cobras high scoring loss meant that they escaped the drop zone as the Cowpokes failed to flatter. The Hawkers have lost their way after a promising couple of weeks so the relegation battle will be a tough one in this rapidly improving league. For the title there are just too many contenders to contemplate. While teams like Petracca and Porter Guns have consistency, teams like DAISY, Far Callers, Chops and Buckets seem to have a higher ceiling. I reckon the fence is the place to be after round six in this league.

Viva La Revolution! It was all arse over tit this week in Division I with top sides falling over left, right in centre as the bottom rail was on top. First casualty was Porter Guns who dropped their first match of the year as Coro Crocs got the big scalp to identify them as a genuine premiership chance. The Far Callers went from Chocolates to Boiled Lollies as they fell short in the match of the round against Buckets who gleefully scooped up the four points. Meanwhile, DAISY dropped a second straight match as Professor Crow had all the answers as the DUDS failed their examination. Back to back losses sees DAISY lose ground in the top four race while the Professor graduated into the top eight of the league as a result. If that wasn't enough, the Clots got the Chop as Jays Jocks made it three wins in four weeks in a remarkable revival after a slow start to the season.

Winners are always grinners and Petracca's Picnic finds themselves the surprise ladder leader added the Crows to their growing list of scalps. Several battling teams got important wins this week. Mates Crowmagnion and Magpie Mafia have struggled at this level but magnion belted the struggling again Hawkers while the Mafia made their bones as they took down the Willies. Cobras and Cowpokes also won this week which means that Hawkers all of a sudden look very vulnerable with extreme competition for the other team to go down. Magpie Mafia's win came not a moment too soon as everyone else seemed to get their shit together this week as well.

18 Magpie Mafia 1 7 16002 16702 95.81 4

Professor Crow have ticket Buckets of their list with a big win that sees the Professor graduate into the top eight after eight rounds. Buckets hasn't dropped too many up here so a massive win their for the Professor. Jays Jocks continued their run of good form with their latest victims being the consistent Crocs who would have loved to put some distance between them and the Crocs. Also outside the eight is Adelaide Crows who despite not being as consistent have shown that their best is more than good enough.

At the top of the table Petracca's Picnic keeps on keeping on while Porter Guns also managed to keep that winning feeling going. It was back in town as far as Far Callers, DAISYSDUDS was concerned while Chops Clots look a strong contender for promotion/flag honours in the coming weeks. The battlers had to settle for second best a bit this week with Hawkers continuing to stink it up while Cobras, Cowpokes and Magpie Mafia all carded losses despite some improved form. The league is going pretty well at the moment with the bottom sides really lifting with only the Hawkers letting the side down at this stage.

17 Cowpokes 2 7 18338 19294 95.05 8
18 Hawkers 2 7 17275 18986 90.99 8

In such an evenly contested league you take any advantage you can and the two leaders have cleared out from the pack after the dust from Round 9 had settled. Petracca's season is really kicking into gear now with his scoring quite consistent now and he little problem disposing with the struggling Cowpokes who dropped into the relegation zone. Porters didn't score quite as well but scored well enough to defeat DAISY who is ranked second in scoring and is always a big scalp.

DAISY wasn't the only contender to find the banana skin this week. Chops Clots have been firing this season but suffered an upset 19 point loss to Adelaide Crows whose challenge for the top eight is gaining momentum. Buckets have also been in solid form but they got tipped over by the Willies who had been struggling for form in recent weeks. The Far Callers couldn't get the job done against Pool Swimmers and Coro Crocks were snapped by Magpie Mafia who moved out of the relegation zone for the first time this year.

Cobras aren't one of the strongest teams in this league but at times this year they have been unlucky, copping losses against strong opposition when scoring well but this time the boot was on the other foot....except snakes don't have feet...as they recorded a vital victory against the cellar dwellars Hawkers (feels so good typing that) even though the snakes didn't rack up a stellar score. All of a sudden Crowmagnion is in the gun for relegation ad his mate Magpie Mafia battles out of it but Cowpokes and Hawkers look a lock to go down at this stage.
