Probably be another 6000 before we win another too.
Funniest part is still having a more recent flag than half the clubs in the comp whose fans trot that stat out :)

Still funny though

It's exactly why it's funny because they feel the need to remind all those clubs.
It doesn’t really bother me because we have been a horrible side and a basket case for 20 years. Not one of those years that we made finals were we a realistic chance of winning a flag. When you scrape into 7th or 8th there is a fair chance you will be playing a final interstate and the rest is history.
I go into every year now not having any expectations but this year should be at least fun to watch some kids get games even if we cop some decent beatings and win only a couple of games[/quote]I thought Bombers were a reasonable side in 2000

I like it, gives a greater chance of snapping a goal from a set shot in the pocket with the man on the mark not allowed off the line.

The biggest improvemnet will be the no swapping on the mark. How many times do you see a team on a quick break get held up when the original player on the mark takes off to guard a loose player and someone else comes into stand the mark. I really think it has potential to be a good adjustment.
Should be a lot more handballs over the top to a player running into goal

I assume the 3rd one is the Hawthorn rule stopping team mates sheperding the guy on the mark so the guy kicking can pinch 5 or 10 metres. Not sure that is a smart move. That kick carrying an extra 10 or so metres gets passed the congestion on occasion.
If its the other way to stop 2 or 3 on the mark then im not fussed

There goes team defence if you can't swap players on the mark.
No more big fella standing the mark when a player is right on his distance.
Just another thing for umpires to police.

Its pretty obvious the afl want more goals for ad revenue.
If they could somehow increase goals by say 30% then that's 30% more ads.
Just fuggin stop fuggin with the game.

The rules are actually a good change, not being able to move laterally will quicken the game up a lot, it will encourage the inside corridor kick and attacking play plus hopefully reduce the down the line bomb to a pack.

I do feel sorry for the umps though, more things that make a tough job even harder.

Really, just like 6 6 6 was going to make for high scoring "fail"

In my opinion "stand" rule is a farce.

Interested to see how this applied in reality and where common sense will be used in the event of a pack mark being taken or a free kick at the bottom of a pack when the players are slightly confused as to who the 'original' person on the mark is. Will the person on the mark automatically be the one that gave away the free? What happens in a pack mark.

I actually like this idea, I see kids teams using this tactic and it's really ugly, it's really annoying to umpire too.

There's too many variations when it comes to protection and exclusion zones, to me, if a team mate enters the area his direct opponent should be allowed to aswell.

I like the concept of that rule as well.

I guess the hard part is the grey areas it all presents. We see when 25m / 50m are given the discrepancies in how far each umpire estimates that to be. I feel we probably will get the same issues, some umps will be hot on it and call anything within 10m whilst others will be more lenient.

just saw this also -

A new rule will also be implemented in the VFL and East Coast second-tier competition, a hybrid league created after COVID-19 destroyed the NEAFL. A minimum of three players from each team will need to be stationed inside 50 at every kick-in and boundary throw-in.

Every f*cking rule introduced every f*cking year is designed to quicken the game up, encourage attacking play, increase scoring and it's done f*ck all to helping any of that.

666, not kicking to yourself from full back to play on, protected zone, third man up etc etc et f*cking c.

Year Average score
2019 80.4
2018 83.5
2017 89.5
2016 88.8
2015 86.6
2014 86.5
2013 92.8
2012 92.1
2011 93
2010 90.5

Instead of trying to facilitate higher scoring and coaches out smarting the rules simply incentivise scoring. Bonus point for 120 points, whatever that may be.

Agree, sometimes the simplest is the best way. Bonus points for goals will work immediately with little impact on the aesthetics of the game.

I think Daisy's actually advocated for a bonus point system in the past.
