Stack of "outs" this week for my local cricket team, so I have been handed the captaincy gig for the 3rds.... got 3 blokes in my team list I don't know.

How do you line up a batting order when you don't know who blokes are......

No bowlers of any note, not 1. Playing the top team.

Not being defeatist.... but we will get raped!

Ask them where they think they're strengths are and where would they put themselves or bowl themselves?

Get a rough gauge and go from there, you have nothing really to lose, if they bowl shit, take them off, you might have unearthed a regular player or two on the other hand.

Make sure you bat first though, at least you'll get early beers if you make bugger all.

Just got worded up on them from the club coach, I don't have the next McGrath or Ponting that's for sure.

Yes batting first is a must. I have a reasonable spin bowler, gonna chuck him the new rock, change it up!

Got a kid (15) that I will bat at 6.. give him a job, rather than bat him at 8 or 9.

At least he'll score.

Running a club in the northern suburbs we had blokes who didn't want to go out for a hit unless they were two cones deep, you'd win the toss and signal to the lads that we're batting and the openers would disappear, you could blindfold them with a piece of cotton when they returned.

And this was a decent standard of A grade.

That's a tough one.

With your bowlers as long as you have a medium pacer to hit a spot you can make use of the new ball.

Maybe hold the spinner back into the shine at least comes of the new ball.

Sorry just to add one more thing, consider your field placing and look at a less attacking option and a ring field. If it doesn't look like your bowlers have much out there.

That will frustrate the **** out of them.

Like 99.9% of organizations, they would've budgeted many years in advance. They'll recover but it would be a huge hit given that their expenditure would've been offset by their income stream, that being attendance.

Someone at work does x-lotto syndicates for the mega draws, she does a heap of other syndicates too, even still for a place she worked at 20 years ago.

Anyway, she never sends out the numbers so people can check themselves, I usually can't help myself but to reply to all asking for the numbers or saying it out loud for everyone to hear, she goes nuts every time I suggest such an honest way of doing it.

You’re kidding? People hand over their money to this woman & don’t get a copy of the syndicate ticket?

Yep, everyone sniggers but I'm the only one that asks for a copy of the numbers and she loses her shit about trust etc.

I'm about to do the same when we have a few more here.
