Could be a Sleepy and Tim May combo

Hatzi is a leftie though isn’t he?

Na mate, rightie, can't really play both, Pope can't bat for shit and averages 72.5 with the ball, take out his 7/87 and he averages 110.7.

Based on them numbers we're better off playing an extra batsman and getting some extra overs out of Head or Cooper.

Yeah right.
I was thinking he was a chinaman so potentially could play both.
I still think they need to persevere with Pope even though his figures say otherwise.

Speaking of Left Arm Chinamen I believe Joe Medew-Ewen is one and have been told to keep an eye on him, he is one of three Port players named in the SA second eleven squad MC posted yesterday.
He has 22 wickets @22.55 in first grade this season and wicket-keeper Isaac Conway has 506 runs @56.22 with 21 catches and 6 stumpings.
Have guys on here seen them in action?

Smith and Marnus both pissed off at getting out, perhaps the umps are as sick as us watching their antics.

Have you seen any of his bowling in this game?
He had 2 or 3 nicked through the slips early on in the first innings. I do think his test days are nearly over though

Starc's problem has always been that he leaks runs, and totally releases any pressure on the batsman, when he's not completely on top.

He has a 'low floor' compared to a Cummins or Hazelwood, for instance.

He shouldn't be picked in the test squad again. We have better options.

Joe Burns is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack
QL made 275 v TA
Joes Burns last man out for 171 off 217 balls
Likeable bloke, be great if he made the Australian team again , and performed well

VI 200 + 5/87
The SS run machine NIc Maddinson has performed very well against an almost Australian attack
Maddinson 77[80] and 44[77] and could end up the top scorer in both digs
He deserves to be picked for Australia on his SS form of the last couple of seasons , irrespective of how he performs at International level

I'm of the opinion that if we don't have one up to the level required, don't play one, he can work on his craft at district level, I'm by no means giving up on him but if all our bowlers averaged 111 @ 4.4 RPO we'd be batting after tea on day two chasing 6/660 declared.

We are not playing a spinner in the Shield match. Will use part time stuff from Bosisto and Head. Fair enough in WA.

Coming into One day team is Cooper, Ferg, Weatherald, Valente and Hatziglou, so Hatzi be our spinner there.

Not so fussed Harry picked in Shield team, did make century in his last game before the break, but has also been picked as batter in the One day comp, that is a joke considering some of the players he has been picked in front of

Unfortunately whilst Tim is still in charge this sort of speculation will continue (i.e. Harry being picked in front of others - not Harry's fault). I did hear that part of the Hussey review was a complete change in the HP department but SACA Board knocked that one on the head and redacted it (??) out of the report - hence why there has been no mention of it.

This is true, was taken out of report as made Tim Neilson look bad  Heard on weekend there were four applicants for the new head of Selector's position that Tim's best mate James Pyke got. Ben Higgins was one, and Tim told him would be conflict with his son Isaac coming thru system. POT. KETTLE!! Plus Isaac is still years away from that level so did not make sense. He was the best person for the job in my opinion.

The other two were Mark Cosgrove and Peter Sleep, both got told by Tim they had a conflict of interest still being heavily involved with a Grade team (Northern's and Woodville) so would not be given the job. Again, could have been resolved before a flat NO!

So he appoints his best mate to continue looking after Harry. Agree, not Harry's fault and like the lad, but how he is in one day team over Lehmann, Gibson, etc is laughable!

Can't really criticise the pedigree of all four of those selector options - Pyke, Higgins, Cosgrove, Sleep - all know their stuff and would have been good choices imho.

Also reckon if it was Harry Jones no one would bat an eyelid at his selection. He's been great in grade cricket for years and has shown a bit at the next level at times too.

Pleased to see a few locals getting a gig this week in either Shield, one day or 2nd XI squads. All of Drew, Kelly x 2, Grant, Johnson, Capel, Worden have ability. Would love to see a few of them step up. Hopefully a few players emerge out of the wreckage. There wasn't much to get excited about pre-Christmas.
This is Tony Clifton! A name to respect! A name to fear!

Cosgrove could've been a worthy option as no one at the Jets is really banging down the door for a state call up.

NSW playing Victoria today, Steve Smith is not playing due to a reoccurring elbow injury and neither is Mitchell Starc as he is on bereavement leave after the death of his father due to cancer on Tuesday.

In other news Mitch Swepson will not play for the rest of the season due to a stress fracture in his neck.
