At 3/19 getting their best two players cheaply and with no Ross Taylor ajd Colin Munro I thought we were a good chance to roll through them but I think we let NZ off the hook as they finish at 5/184. Sams started very well but went at 10 an over in the end FFS as did Richardson and Agar. While I've seen every other of tonight's bowling options bowl economically in T20I's and/or the BBL everytime I watch Sams bowl he's expensive.
Conway batted brilliantly and had important partnerships with Phillips and Neesham but had had some luck, dropped by Stoinis and he almost gets a maiden T20I hundred.

Sams is somewhere between state and international level, he's just not quite up to it, I'm not sure why the love for Kane Richardson at this level, I like the guy and he bobs up now and again with a solid performance but I think there's better getting around.

Wade (sort of deserved his spot, would sooner have Carey in there but he got burnt enough to be given this farewell tour).
Finch (had a horrid BBL, it obviously holds zero weight when you're the captain of a nation that has a population of 25.4 million, I guess he deserves one last series at the helm to see if he has anything left to offer).
Philippe Had to be given a shot, he opens in the BBL so I couldn't see why he batted at 3, I would've had him as keeper too.
Marsh Despite all of our criticism over the years, he had to given a shot, would've been better if we had a rare moment of fitness so he could've bowled the marathon 4 overs in as day.
Maxwell Probably doesn't suit coming in at 3/16 unfortunately, coming in at 3/46 in the 6th and then he's off scoring 50+ in 20 balls.
Stoinis The golden boy of the T20 selectors, gets to have more failures than anyone to hold his spot.
Agar Got a MOTM a couple of years ago so I guess we'll keep rolling with him despite having limited ability, I can't believe he got picked on the back of not even playing in the BBL.
Sams Yeah nah.
Jhye Much love, chuck in Cummis and Behrendorff and there's a tough 60% of the overs for the opposition to face.
Kane Handy back up, getting a little stale.
Zampa Does well, has an impressive record, I'd take Swepson over him though.

Looking at that 11 it seems that we really are stuck in the mud, for a younger person type game we've got some years in there.

If CA agrees with Jim I wish they'd come out and say it, I don't care if they have no interest in us being successful on the T20 circuit, just let us know so we can stop being disappointed with poor team selections and sub-standard performances. Like it or not, the BBL was OK this year and there's enough young talent about to work on and open the door in this format to.

1. Reward for good BBL form
2. Experience international cricket
3. Show that our BBL isn’t that great and shouldn’t be the currency for selecting Aussie sides (particularly test).

At least play them then, we may as well of had Dan the Man playing, he deserved to be.

Agree with most of that, I too would of liked to see Philippe both open the batting and keep and Finch's form is both frustrating and concerning considering he's been our best T20 player for quite some time, hopefully he can turn it around quickly.
This series for Australia is as much as a precursor to the T20 World Cup than anything else and it's a good opportunity to see which of these BBL T20 specialists are good enough for international level.

I'm on the other side of the fence here, I'd sooner we move him on and get some kids in there, I think his captaincy wanes in the field if he fails with the bat if we bat first, he's a confidence player and he's shot atm. I think we have a lot of youth coming through and it's obvious that Carey will take the reigns, if we leave it too long Carey will be 32 and it will be a redundant move, make the change now and build a team.

We're getting a little long in the tooth IMO. Just on this tour:
34: Finch, Tye.
33: Wade.
32: Maxwell.
31: Stoinis.
30: Kane, The Dorff, D'arcy.
29: Marsh.
28: Zampa, Turner.

I'd be trying to move along Finch, Tye and Wade. Maxwell has a few years left in him and I'd use Stoinis as his back up unless he starts firing again, his big knocks are few and far between at international level lately.

I think we can find a more balanced, versatile side with the players at our disposal.

We always need to play a left arm quick IMO.

Fit and available, yes.

I'd slot him in, drop Short and put Carey after Maxy.

Can't really disagree with what you've posted above highlighting the age of some of the guys and this team looks pretty good, I'd have Warner and Starc in a full strength line up if the selectors go that way and only one of Carey (preferably) or Philippe as the keeper/opener.
The only player I would never consider because I don't rate him at all is D'Arcy Short. Also he can only really open the batting and we have so many better T20 openers to choose from.
I hope Behrendorff is able to come back into contention for Australian selection in the future.

Short is hit ands miss, he had a couple of stellar seasons and I guess he's performed when I've watched him, he has it all but has probably under achieved for a year or two so I can understand your lack of love for him.
Agree with Starc, I'd say once they give up on him in the test arena he'll hone in on his short game to keep the dollars rolling in, on his day he is virtually unplayable, I hope we haven't seen the last of him in the white ball game.
Totally agree with Behrendorff, loved watching him in full flight previously, I was under the impression that he was finished through injury, I'm glad I was ill-informed, I always have a soft spot for left arm quicks, I modelled my action and run up on Akram once he hit the scene.

While he's been very good and consistent in the BBL Short has been a miss more than a hit at international level so far to really demand selection over the likes if Warner, Finch and Carey, and he's already 30.
Starc is our best white ball bowler and while perhaps his test future is becoming uncertain you'd think he'd play in the T20 World Cup.
It's good to see Behrendorff back on the first class scene after all his back injury issues, he may even be considered to play for WA in the Sheffield Shield again.

Starc's ability to rise when needed in the short form would suggest that you'd have to pick him, his lessened workload should increase his desire.

I'd love to sit outside the Austral one Sunday afternoon with you talking cricket, you're a wealth of knowledge for your age and I always value your opinion, even when it differs to mine.

Infact, it's a bloody good mix full stop in these threads, there are lots of different opinions, no one is right or wrong and no one really goes to town on anyone for thinking differently, I learn a bit from pretty much everyone that posts in this thread or the domestic one, a couple of my favourite ones on here, blokes like RB and Daisy keep me on my toes if I forget someone or stuff something up, I love it.

Aw shucks mate, appreciate it, I just read and in particular watch and/or listen to alot of cricket related content and I enjoy sharing it on here. I recently found former ESPN Cricinfo writer Jarrod Kimber's YouTube channel and boy does he do some great analysis. Also there's alot of negativity and grumpiness aimed at either the Australian players, the team in general or the game as a whole so I try and provide a positive and measured approach to motivate discussion and give the negative Nancy's something to consider and hopefully change their constant negative way of thinking. While I appreciate and consider others cricket opinions I dislike rash comments and with the access to information we have at our disposal these days it's not hard to do a bit of research to really find the answer to a question or query someone has.

I've become a bit of a NN as I feel that we've lost the true Aussie fighting, gritty spirit that I grew up with and loving our national heroes and icons whether it be a Mike Whitney who wasn't terribly quick or anything special but he played with pure ticker, like Merv, Big Carl, Henry, Terry Alderman and then there were the Steve Waugh's, Ponting's, AB's, Boonie and Flipper-like blokes who stood up to any challenge because they were representing our nation.

I feel that we've lost that mental toughness, we've replaced it with a sooky brat-like attitude, something we always accused the Poms of being like. You watch far more cricket than I do now, you do remind me of a younger me in that aspect though, there was a time that I wouldn't miss a ball that was being played anywhere on the globe and I could rattle off key stats of any player in the world straight off the top of my head.

It's only in recent times that I've found that I dislike more players in our team than I actually like, we've had our random knobhead in our team over the years but we have never really had a flock of them at the one time, I think there's a few that play for themselves now and the crap that we give out isn't tough, it's pathetic and cowardice at times. Although I wasn't a huge fan of Clarke for some time, I admired his toughness with age, he could give it out knowing full well that they were going to make life tough for him with the bat, he thrived on it though and it made him a better player.

I can understand people's frustrations in relation to the players behaviour but I'm not one to get too hung up on it given that everyone else is already commenting on it which I get sick of so I try and focus on more of the numbers and stats side of the game and try to enjoy the cricket as much as possible.

Yes I watch alot of cricket but also it's easy for me these days to keep up with most of the international cricket and our domestic cricket using the Cricket Apps, YouTube and Instagram to read about the matches, check scores, watch highlights and view stats and trivia and share it on here.

Any guesses for in's/out's?

Without knowing how the pitch plays I'd like to see Tanveer and either Meredith or Behrendorff in. For memory Dunedin suits the quicks so it wouldn't hurt to lose Agar, Zampa and Richardson for these 3.

I can't see the selectors doing much with our batting order, Wade will be spared another opportunity while the series is still alive.

Personally I'd bring in Short and the two quicks I mentioned at the expense of Wade, Sams and Kane, Agar probably gets lucky with his batting ability over Tanveer and our tail would be too long. FWIW, I think we'll get out our arses handed to us, it would probably be a blessing in disguise to get flogged this series as we can do a bit of a clean out and move forward younger and stronger.

I heard McDonald say they brought over plenty of options and they want to throw different looks at NZ so that indicated to me that we will see a heap of changes from match to match. Wouldn't surprise me if they already have an XI set out for each of the 5 matches with rotations etc

I'd have Behrendorff over Richo... cant drop Zampa though, he's an exceptional T20 bowler.. unless you can play Tanveer & Zampa together.

I'd have Behrendorff over Richo... cant drop Zampa though, he's an exceptional T20 bowler.. unless you can play Tanveer & Zampa together.

Agreed, he has too many credits in the bank and he was ok the other day, Kano and Sams leaked 82 runs from their combined 8 overs, you're not gonna win too many games with 40% of your overs costing that many.
