The third test was the seventh shortest in deliveries bowled (842) in test history. The most recent test match that was shorter was in 1935. Two of the other five shortest were in the 1888 Ashes series.

In amongst yesterday's carnage Ashwin took his 400th test wicket, he's the the forth Indian to reach the milestone and the second fastest overall (77 matches) to reach the mark.

I think India making the (low) target without loss might help this pitch avoid a 'poor' rating.

The argument being that the Poms played a couple 'get out' shots, and aren't very good at playing spin. India's 1st innings score was very average but not ridiculous.

I feel that the pitch at the MCG a couple of years ago was worse, because there was absolutely no possibility of a result within 5 days. If tests were timeless, Alistair Cook would've still been at the crease when the umpire was blowing the whistle for the start of Round 1 in the AFL.

Also lol at "in no circumstances should the pitch 'explode'."

Can't see why he is in the side, terrible batsmen.

And batting at 3? What a joke.

Surely Stokes gets the flick for the next test as well?

England look to be all over the place with selection and team balance. India, like in Australia recently seem to be able to change their team and still settle better than their opposition.

Well the pitch exploded in the first two tests.
If this one went any further, the batters wouldn't be able to take guard.
The bowlers would've been 3 or 4 inches shorter at delivery or disappeared all together.

Dropping stokes might be the craziest thing I've heard for a while. Only been our best batter the last 12 to 18 months by the length of the strait. Bairstow has a good record against spin hence he plays in Asia but I tend to agree he's had enough chance by now. We simply lack batting depth and rely heavily on root and stokes, hence why we are a good team but not anything more.

England simply weren't good enough but that pitch was deadset average, root should not be taking 5 for 8 ever. At least that flog ashwin got to pad his inflated home stats again.

I wouldn't of thought Stokes would be dropped anytime soon either but since Ashwin has now dismissed him 11 times in test cricket maybe that's why Gadj suggested it?
Number 3 has been as issue for England for awhile, I thought Crawley was going to be there for an extended period of time but obviously England prefer him opening and after him there aren't too many outstanding options hence why they've look past Lawrence and gone back to Bairstow.

Stokes doesn’t seem to be bowling anywhere near as much as he has in the past.

True, maybe it's because of the conditions? Or workload?
On one of the cricket podcasts I watch on YouTube the hosts talked about Root answering a question before the third test about Stokes bowling and he said Stokes wasn't carrying any injuries.
I'd expect him to bowl more when England play NZ and India in England.

Some Sri Lankan bloke took a hat trick in the T20 against the Windies today and then Pollard just hit him for six 6’s in the over :)

Can't really lose here.

The Poms win, and we make the final of the World Test Championship thingy.

The Poms lose... well, the Poms lose!!
