I don't deal directly with builders, thank fully, as most of their macho, dick measuring contest bullshit doesn't fly with me, quite the opposite in fact, you won't get anywhere with me if you're a prick about it. Unfortunately most of my customers deal with that on their client side so it rubs off on them.

More often than not we get a watered down version, I'll cop that, but only to an extent and very rarely do we get positive, even if we've done well, feed back.

I went the extra yard recently with a customer to get them out of a hole, he's just replied with a cracking thank you and a lunch date on offer as a thanks for the work I put in for him. Good to get some positive feedback for a job done well instead of the constant negativity most of the industry suffers from.
Last time I got positive feedback, I got it printed in the front of our catalogue.

He lost his hearing in his right ear, it's quite common for permanent hearing loss with the infection and surgery he had, he had accepted that.

18 months later out of the blue, his hearing came back yesterday afternoon, he went straight to the WCH and they just couldn't believe it.

I might be getting a bit soft in my old age but it chugged on my heart strings all afternoon/evening, even this morning I have a massive lump in my throat and I'm completely overwhelmed.

I'm a very happy man this morning.

A pleasant surprise yesterday, I figured that his motor skills and balance may start improving with the ear working again, he played his best game Sunday since the illness, kicked the first two goals of the match, was taking pack marks again (he's a bit of a short-arse) and racked up a heap of effective disposals.

He won the best player award, it was very pleasing from a father's perspective living the path and remembering the times when I looked over at his hospital bed just praying for hope to just live, not even thinking about playing sport again!!

Being alive and well.

Every morning I have to walk across to the other side of the factory to get some paperwork and touch base personally with the shift manager, although there's a lot of faces that have changed over the years and I don't really have much to do with most of the factory employees, it's always nice to get a wave or hand shake along the way, quite often a little bit of banter on the journey too.

I don't get to say it very often but f*** I'm a happy man today.

Cheers, I had two bits of good news last week, I know that's me done for the year now so I'll take a positive where I can.

My last 12 months I've lived in a bubble pretty much, can't wait to have my son back living with me and possibly my daughter too, we text or chat every day but there's nothing like sitting around the dinner table telling each other how good we are.

Thanks fella, I'm looking forward to the move, it's about 6 weeks earlier than I was hoping for so it's going to be a struggle but don't give a flying f***.

I've got my essentials to move in with and worry about other shit later, managed to borrow a trailer for a few weeks so I can just pick up bargains off of Gumtree etc. to complete the furnishings, I'll gradually upgrade as I go along.

Ideally I needed to wait for my tax return as you need 8 weeks rent upfront, 11 in my case as I get paid monthly, start up utility/phone costs plus other sundry things that I have forgotten but that's all irrelevant right now.

I'm actually pretty keen to use my new knife and cooking sets that I bought 6 months ago but haven't used.

Have you been to SA Housing to see if they can assist you with the bond? My missus used to work there and they pay for bonds for people who have full time jobs etc. It's not just for the unemployed. Might be worth having a look.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

I thought about it but it all happened too quick, I went to the open Wednesday arvo and got approved Thursday arvo, it was only Monday I had a run in with where I was living and thought f*** it, just get out of here.

I've already paid the bond etc. now so the horse has bolted, I've just gotta do stuff all for 6 weeks.

I didn't really want to owe anyone money either.

You can probably get that money back if you qualify and SA Housing will fix it up for you. They don't actually pay it up front as such. They just do a guarantee that they will pay the bond out at the end of the tenancy if the house is trashed so you wouldn't have anything to worry about.

Just had a look and you probably wouldn't qualify anyway as your wage will be over the cut off.

On a day when life gave me a good swift kick in the nuts I managed to salvage some positives as the day progressed.

My son is umpiring his first senior game with me on Saturday arvo and then my daughter rang me to let me know she's playing her first div 1 footy game Saturday too.

I may have written the remainder of the day off by ripping the scab off of a couple of Peter Lehmann's finest.

Moving day tomorrow.
