With a salary cap as it is now, every club offers the same maximum dollars to the bigger names shopping around (in theory of course because we all know that isn’t the case), so of course most players will choose a club having success. The points system should mean that doesn’t/can’t happen (as often).

Anyone have a crack at a Team for the Association match?
Could someone Post the actual side after training tonight?

Will be interesting to see how many Over 30's choose to play?

I guess I’ll point out the obvious….

Where’s all the Bulldogs? Pinyon, Ziggy Vitkunas, Nick Mott, Lewis Johnston, Matt Skrypek, Sam Haniford. Could arguably all be walk up starts, but none in the side - all injured? Bet they’re right for round 10. Yes, other Clubs have star players not selected, but not six.

There is no points limit in association lads, get amongst it.

Guess there’s also no player payments though.

So looking at this team and looking at Best players from the Top 4 sides, what is going on?? Are the top players past the age of compulsion? or do they not want to support the GSFL as it has not supported them this year.

Notable Absentees

Compass : Pinyon, Vitkunas, Skrypek, Johnstone, Grove, Hoban

Willunga: Beath, Fenton, Warmington, Bass, Hutchens

Creek: Derham, Sellar, Kellock, Cleggett, Blackwell

Vale: Ellis, Mutton, Moyle, McKay, Grimley

Enc Bay: C Tonkin, Baldock, Davis, Neale

Beath missed last Saturday - assuming injured. Has always put his hand up.
Fenton - injured.
Bass - age isn’t on his side unfortunately and probably not the best ruck in the League.
Sellar - has missed a lot of football lately.
Kellock - has also played limited footy this season.
Ellis - first player selected each year, is getting on with age so could be just letting others have a go.
Baldock - played one game all season due to injury.
Davis - injured lately.
Neale - another that normally plays so can’t question what he’s done for the Association.

Others you can add to the list are Boyd & Guilhaus. Boyd was injured Saturday and it was Seb’s first game back after a month out.

Marc Elliott, Brett Ellis, Tyson Neale, Brett Ellis & Sean Beath must have been great in Association matches over the years and regular participants.

Boyd hasn't really made it past 1/4 time the last 2 weeks, he was carried off against Creek 4 weeks back. As you say, Seb's first game back for a while and didn't make it through either - I was surprised he was in the squad in the first place. Bash was on 1/2 a leg on saturday too.

Amazes me Billy Wade wasn't even in the squad.

Yep, absolutely no problem with those three Victor boys not being involved as they are all carrying injuries - not saying any of the Compass guys aren’t, but none of us seem to be aware of any.

Billy Wade is a jet. i rate him very highly, can quickly turn the momentum of a game.

Pretty disappointing day for the GSFL, well done to my home Club Goolwa-Port Elliot who had three players take home Best Player awards including the old man, Todd Miles. Many others could learn a lot from Todd about representative football.

Is now a good time for the Pies to ask for bonus player points? They did a lot more for the League today than the dirty Dogs.

The good. Congratulations to Todd Miles for the way he represented the GSFL and his club Goolwa Pt Elliot. Great recruiting a lesson to many clubs and players. Well done to the lads that put their hands up to play for GSFL. Congratulations to SFL and their administration. The bad. The position the GSFL finds itself in. And yes it's a good time for the pies to ask. It appears that all you have to do is ask, not sure if you have won enough games to ask for concessions.

Nine Clubs could’ve boycotted the Association game for the way the GSFL Executives have screwed the League this season, instead, they’ve been shit on the most by the Club they’ve bent the rules for.

Well done to the SFL lads, they’ve shown a real hunger for representative footy the last 4-5 years, led by the Flagstaff lads.

How about this idea-, get the Association selectors send out an expression of interest to all club coaches, and ask them to canvas their team for interested players, rather then put individuals in a position where they either have to make up an excuse if they are under 30 years old or risk suspension, or if they are over 30, just simply pull out?

I think about all the players who made the squad who pulled out practically on the day the announcement was made! What's the point of their inclusion? You cant blame many of these older players, as they certainly benefit more from a week off then what they get out of a game that is far more currently about the appendix swinging exec sitting in their tent, telling stories of the good ole times than it is about giving ambitious players a platform with an opportunistic audience! If it was about showcasing the local talent, why hasn't the exec offered to accommodate SANFL clubs? Where were the South Adelaide representation in the form of senior coaches and Talent scouts for the senior game?

Maybe if players don't put their hand up to play Association footy, that should automatically exclude them from all zone and state representation consideration? Might stop the same names getting picked based on reputation instead of form.

Association footy could easily become great again, if they stopped making the same mistakes every year, and gave the opportunities to those who still want to be involved and possibly striving for something more.

It’s a great idea. Looking back at the initial squad, I’ve noticed Todd Miles wasn’t included, neither was Hicks from Compass or Lachie Scott from Willunga. So if they’re having to pull players in from outside the squad, that tells me that anyone below that didn’t play, opted to withdraw either due to injury, not wanting to play, or some bullshit excuse.

1/8 Compass players selected originally actually played and 0/4 from Yankalilla. We know all three from Victor are carrying injuries.

The Following senior players have been selected in the Association Training Squad to play the Southern League at Strathalbyn on Saturday 12th June.

ENCOUNTER BAY - Wade Sweetman*, Lachie Williams*, Callum Tonkin, Tyson Neale.

GOOLWA-PT ELLIOT - Daniel Fry, Zac Bates, Aisea Raikiwasa.

LANGHORNE CREEK Shannon Jones*, David Warren, Matthew Dominish, Coby Helyar, Thomas Derham, Curtis Perrey

McLAREN - Ashley Goodieson*, Steve Branson, Todd McKay, Alex Moyle, Sam Lawrie, Brett Ellis, Sam Bentley*.

MT COMPASS - Klaus Simons*, Tom Pinyon, Lewis Johnston, Nick Mott, Ziggy Vitkunas, Brent Creek, Sam Haniford, Tom Vitkunas,

MYPONGA-SELLICKS – Jake Spinks*, Sam Kennedy.
