R15 Norwood v Eagles Saturday 1410.

Postby DOC » Wed Jul 14, 2021 5:58 pm

Both sides winners last week with Norwood being the more impressive of the two.

Looks like Norwood may lose Nunn and the Eagles to lose Von Bertouch.

Eagles won easily first time around and have a good record at the Parade.

Toss of the coin. Norwood by a point.

I'll be happy with a Norwood win, if we do the same, Minor Premiership sealed.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The eagles will be without Von Bertouch but should get knight and Troy Menzel back .
I think it’s going to be a tight hard fought game

Me thinks minor premiership already sealed. Can't see you dropping 4 of the last 5 games. Happy if you drop a game at the Bay in a couple of week's time though ;)

Big game for both teams. An Eagles win will go a long way to sewing up a top 3 spot, especially if Glenelg beat South.

Was a terrible game for the Eagles at Norwood last year, hopefully that result is reversed.

Was Sinor injured last week too? I see he’s named to play.

With the forecast conditions, VB's loss won't be as crucial as I'm sure we'll go in with a smaller forward line.
Eagles were as bad at Norwood last year as Norwood were at Oval Ave this year. Will be a slogfest with the team wanting it more winning. Will not be pretty to watch.

I fear the Eagles might have a little more class near goal, which is often the deciding factor in a slog. Hope Im wrong obviously and our boys bring the form from last week, but much different class of opponent this weekend. W/L or D, hope the boys give everything for Griggy in his 200th, he's well and truly earned the right to be a revered figure at the Parade.

Oops, thought I might have had Griggy's milestone wrong.

Always had a ton of respect for Thompson - Placed with a SANFL club but stuck around, and has always been dependable, well done on a great career

My memory isn’t as good as it was . Either Luke’s dad told me or I read somewhere that Luke loved the Eagles because the eagles treated him better than the Crows did .
But whatever reason he stuck with the eagles and the eagles have benefited from his stability 200 games and the longest serving captain for the Eagles
Well done Luke

Not sure whether it was luck or whether it was just the way they were welcomed by the Club but the Eagles generally did very well selecting players from the Crows/Power Mini-draft when it was around. Thompson and McKenzie being two prime examples. I'd also throw Knights in there who also played 30 odd games for us but always seemed to like playing for the Club and may well have stuck around had he not been drafted by Richmond that took him back to Victoria. Mark Stevens is another who could quite easily have decided not to play for the Eagles during SANFL finals time with the Crows finishing up their campaign but enjoyed pulling on our jumper.

All these players have/had great character and such players are the types you want to have around the Club.

Congratulations Thommo on your 200th. Since its formation the Club has had three full-backs who have held down that position at our Club for a combined total of about 25 years - Thompson, Hall and Spehr. It is this stability down back that has been one of reasons our Club has been pretty successful. Thommo has been up there with the best of them in the way he is unassuming but always get the job done. Like Giuffreda's 200th earlier this season let's hope that if we are well ahead in the last quarter that Sheedy swings you forward and gives you the opportunity to kick a goal!

R15 Norwood v Eagles Saturday 1410.

Postby Jim05 » Sat Jul 17, 2021 5:23 pm

Absolute capitulation from this bunch of marshmallows.
Grigg goals to put the lead out to 19 points halfway through the third quarter and since then the Eagles have kicked 6.2 to 0.0.
Absolutely weak as piss

Being an Eagles fan it would be great to see them kick straight in front of goals again .
But a win is win especially at Norwood oval .
Nice the Eagles rested Redden and Hayes in the last quarter .

There seems to be a "calmness" with the Eagles under Sheedy. Even behind, like yesterday and GF2020, they keep on keeping on, and stick to their game plan. It seems to work

Watching the game on the pass the callers were really confused that Norwood was in front but the eagles had control of the ball . Suddenly saying Stengle did nothing then ok goal 1 or 2 same with Tsitas hadn’t done much then ok he has.
Personally the biggest game change was Poole into the centre and suddenly the eagles stretched their wings kicked a heap of goals to 1.
