No AFL reserves in the SANFL finals again this year. Excellent.

Has the SANFL made a programing mess in the reserves and U18's. The Eagles played Sturt yesterday and again next week. From memory that is 4 times this year. Not sure if that has happened to other clubs.

Yes. According to the fixture, your reserves play them for a 5th time next week at Unley. So far you have both won 2 matches each, and played at home twice. The 'dogs reserves have played the bays 4 times, losing all 4.

I tend to agree

Glenelg clearly and deservedly the strong favourites. But the Grand Finalists from last year are in reasonable form and like Glenelg, know what is required in terms of intensity on the ball. Still think South, on Adelaide Oval in Spring, with young talent, could surprise if they can get back to some form shown earlier in the season.

It should be a great finals series. It’s pleasing to see such high standards from the top teams, despite all that has happened over the past 18 months with Covid and a huge bonus having no AFL Reserves in the finals again.

Yes it's going to be a good finals series, time will tell if it's a great one.

I'll nail my colours to the mast and say I expect us to play in the GF (airfares booked and paid two months ago). I am confident we will win at least one game this finals series and hopefully two.

Whether we salute or not I'm not that confident at the minute and wont be until we are 5 goals clear into time on into the last qtr of the GF. What I do know if we play to our potential that we've demonstrated all year we should win.

However 1978 is an alarm bell in my frontal lobes as a team and its supporters that finished six games clear at the end of the minor round and duly saluted in the 2nd Semi are still having nightmares from not playing to it's potential in the GF.

North and Eagles are the dangers and are very real threats and like Norwood in 1978 have the ability to beat anyone on their day.

Over to the rest of you
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Whilst we capable of matching the good sides occasionally we are far too flaky and inconsistent. You can safely rule out 4th and 5th this year

Just had a look at the fixture
Eagles next 2 games august 28 and September 4 no issue
Port and south at Alberton TBC
Following week Port v Glenelg at Alberton TBC
I wonder why Port is TBC when Adelaides aren’t

In 1978 not only were Sturt 6 games in front of Norwood, Sturt's percentage was 6% higher than Norwood. At least North and the Eagles have almost identical percentages to Glenelg, not that it matters at all. Early in the year I thought that Glenelg were 5 goals better than any other side. They certainly haven't slipped but I now think that they are about 3 goals better than North or Eagles.

Sturt losing Hardeman in 1978 changed everything. I am sure they would have won the flag if he hadn't been injured in a meaningless game.

I am not wishing injuries upon Glenelg but is there any irreplaceable player in their team. I would have thought McBean but they would still have Reynolds and Hosie. Maybe if they were to lose Curran or Proud they wouldn't be quite as invincible.

And having seen South on the weekend, I would be stunned if they could push any of the top three. Sure they will get Rose and Cross back, but they don't seem to have the depth of players of the top three.

Wow, that's some serious pressure on the Bays, will be the biggest choke in over 100 years if they don't win the flag!

That PA 1914 team must have a very very good team
PA lowest margin for the season was 21 points, against NA , awesome in an era of low scoring
The other amazing was the % that season , only PA finished over 50.00%[69.68%]
NW finished bottom with 45.46%

The only snag on that season was they only played a 12 game minor round
12-0 was still a great effort
PA ended up the season 14-0

GL only have 2 more games for this season
They play WA + PA
It would be great to see a team in the SANFL undefeated in the Minor round , and seeing it in our lifetimes
I hope they achieve that feat

15-0 if you include the Champions of Australia match that year.

Elsewhere, Port Melbourne went 18-0 in the 2011 VFL season and won all 3 finals (final eight) to be 21-0 undefeated premiers.

Big call there on the Eagles dropping to seventh. I suppose they have lost a few, but the reserves flag suggests a bit of depth.

Yep, underestimated majorly.
Pretty close with rest.

And the Eagles were the hands down best recruiters in the off-season.
