So trade out 23 this year for probably 20 odd next year. Negligible.

Turn 37 into 33 this year. Negligible.

Turn 44,62 and 66 into 75. Perhaps small loss.

Why?
Clubs are looking multiple years in advance. They might have academy or F/S prospects next year. There is a real good crop of SA KPP’s in next years draft that they might want to get amongst. Then you have strategic moves for players coming out of contract. Lukosius, Rankine etc and they have armed themselves with picks to have a crack at them next year

23 into 20 odd...assuming Melbourne win the flag and several father sons/academy gets selected? Then you could argue 23 is more like 28 this year too.
I gotta trust what they are planning or why else would they do it...

There's a bit of method with their madness, I think they plan on bottoming out this year and going batshit crazy on drafts for next year.

It's probably a 5 year plan that Dew is setting up to give him sustainability for his role.

They're getting nothing out of Brodie as it stands, he is poop.

I just can't get my head around why the Suns have never got off the ground, you'd think it would be a thriving metropolis for young blokes to go live and play footy, they need to work out how to market this and make themselves a destination club.

I'm probably out on my own here but I generally think the draft is over-rated, yeah, sure there are some ready made players in the top 10 that can be up and running in their first year, there are many that never really develop though. There are many that go in the 60's and beyond that excel along with many late bloomers.

It's all in between the ears for most of these lads.

Agree

I don't have any statistics to back it up but i reckon clubs are now more willing to and taking more of those mid aged somewhat established players like Dunstan and Finlayson for the 3 to late draft picks because they are just so hit and miss.

Guessing they are posturing for picks next year to use to get Rankine or Lukosious back ?

Melbourne's future first will go to Sydney for Dawson (There will be other picks involved either way).
That pick will then go to Port for Ladhams (Again other pics will be involved going back either way).

Port will have 2 first rounders for next year then to either hit the better draft or go at Lukosious who if he comes back to SA, is closer to wanting to go to Port than the Crows.

So Fremantle get Brodie (and pick 19) and pick 6 for Cerra while still having 8.

With 6 and 8 they could make a play at the top 2 or 3 picks.

This year is particularly hard because many of the Victorian lads haven't played much footy over the past 2 years, so recruiters are relying on U16 form from years back.

From what I hear from family connections, Loko has no intention of returning (similar was said of Rankine) .. A lot can happen in 12 months I guess, but I'd think it highly unlikely he comes home by 2023.

If Dawson played his best footy to date away from family then how good could he be when he's settled in his hometown?

Or he gets comfortable and plays just average footy for a big wage.

Looking forward to seeing this all play out.

That isn't going to happen. There is no way North give him up.

Hypothetically speaking....they've got pick 4 so wangle a deal to swap picks with north.
His management sell north he's gonna want to come home so let's make a deal.
Its only 3 picks difference.....again hypothetically.
Crows might have to give up a good player, that may want to go home to Victoria, as the deal sweetener.
