Symbolizing the kneeling on Floyd's neck, it makes me cringe, I'm a special unit though so I don't necessarily think I'm right.

I can see how the connection between Flloyds death and the kneel is made.

Maybe its more symbolic because it makes you think of his tragic death and therefore reflect on the pain he suffered.

Taking a knee was in play before Floyd's death, there is no connection between the act that killed Floyd and the act of taking a knee.

Correct, starting in the NFL over racially inequity / police brutality from memory during the National anthem.. Floyd's murder just magnified it.

Taking a knee was initiated by the NFL player in 2016. He would take a knee during the natiinal anthem. He was ostrocised at the time. Taking a knee doesn't symbolise George Floyd's death specifically. Before the India v Pakistan game, all the Indian players took a knee and all the Pakistan players placed a hand on their heart. Both powerful symbolic gestures.

So why does Cricket South Africa direct players to do this, but other South African national teams don't??

Why should any team direct their players to do it?

What happen to freedom of speech and personal choice?

Surely something like this is each individuals personal choice, and despite if you agree or disagree with what they choose, you respect their choice. For a body to mandate that they do it is very ordinary IMO, especially as it was only an hour before the game

It isn't and I think a lot of people are blithely skipping over the appalling history of racial inequality in that country. I mean even a chmapion fast bowler like Makhaya Ntini who was finally the first black South African to play for their national team had to deal with teammates refusing to eat with him.

Quinton de Kock should be utterly ashamed of himself.

Colin Kaepernick and some of the San Francisco 49ers took a knee before a game during the national anthem. It basically ended his career.

You can elect do say what you want but there are consequences. You have the right to not take the knee but you aren't immune from the criticism that act will draw.

De Kok was not prevented from exercising his personal choice. As he has done before, he has made a statement which appears to indicate that he tolerates racism. That's something I'll never respect.

Perhaps he feels taking a knee isn't the answer to solving racism in sport and there are other more practical ways.

Im not aware of his history in this space, if that adds a further layer to his decision then fair enough, however he was clearly prevented from exercising his personal choice.

Was he? Seems to me that he did exercise his personal choice (that is, to sit out rather than take the knee).
