**** no. He's ok to for the white ball stuff but when it gets tough with red ball cricket his method is to let the ball hit him and then gift his wicket. Very short memory some people. A severely limited player. Got by on 'grit' then threw his wicket away about four times in a manner that would make Usman Khwaja blush.

Give Carey the gig.

Paine's still making himself available to play in the Ashes just stepped down as captain. CA have confirmed he's still available for selection during the series.

From what Tim said, a journo was about to go public with it, so in the best interests of the team he resigned the captaincy.

I want to know why it was going to made public now given it happened in 2017 and there was an investigation into it and supposedly sorted out at the time?

Why reveal this four years later?

Coincidentally, the female involved was sacked from Tasmania Cricket this week on suspicion of theft. Very bizarre timing everything

Just give Cummins a go as captain - he's now 28, not 18. Plus, there's some irony in giving someone with that surname the gig. Otherwise (this being for other examples, too), why make someone VC without intending to make them C? Just so they can fill in on the field when necessary?

Maybe a correlation between the two will be revealed?

Hard to see how he can play in the ashes, but if he does we should get some cracking songs from the Barmy Army.

Take the emotion of the scenario out of it, the outcome of this will be the best thing to happen to the Australian Test team in at least 18 months. Carey injected in to that line up gives far more batting depth and a very good gloveman. Once We retained the Ashes in England we should have thanked Paine and moved on for the good of the Australian Test side.

Why is everyone assuming Carey will come straight in?
Inglis is in better form currently or maybe even Philippe could be blooded

Did CA leak the news so they didn’t have to tap Paine on the shoulder?

Agree with you.

Agreed been saying for the last 12 months Carey could easily be overlooked.

We talk about our bowling depth but I think we bat deeper with our “keepers. I can’t recall a time when we’ve had more depth with the gloves TBH

Carey Inglis Phillipe Pierson Harper Whitman (3rd string for WA now but has great hands) Chuck in McDermott Doran Neville and Wade and the depth is quite strong.

Arguably the last time we had this depth was the late 80s with Healy, Anderson, Dimmatina, Berry, Zohrer Dyer and even the biscuit loving Soule from Tassie could’ve done the job.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

And yet, Matt Wade gets left out of the conversation due to the ridiculous level of discrimination towards him.

He’s in the conversation still but right at bottom of it.

His place in the conversation is because compared to Paine, Carey, Inglis or Phillipe he’s not as good a red ball cricketer, IMO

Is it discriminatory to not pick him cause he's a shit keeper, I don't think so!

Carey at 7 is a much better option.
