I should hope not.

I did think I was wrong once about five years ago but I was mistaken.

But, of course, there may be different degrees of “independent”

Helps when one of your best mates, & mentor, is sitting on the tribunal
And Weatherill particularly dislikes not getting his way.

Australia Day lunch booked at the Lakes for 14 people. Then became 12, then 10, then 6, then 4 then cancelled. Poor bastards in hospo trying to get through this period.

I tend to agree, but if you have to pay the big bucks are they doing it for the right reasons?

This pandemic has not uncovered two scourges of political incompetence and media fear. They already existed. Agreed

>166,000 UK people die of cancer every year should read >166,000 UK people die with cancer every year My point exactly. That's why I said it

I will only believe that politics is truly a civil service when the politicians are not paid other than for proven out of pocket expenses.
I know of no other industry where people can earn $200k - $300k, with no qualifications or experience, and worse still: no liability

I'm inclined to agree that some politicians are only in it for the money and that they don't produce much, but some are in it to push there own and associates agendae, and some are there trying to genuinely do good. My brother-in-law is one of the latter group though I find him a bit conservative and we don't agree on some issues.

On the other hand, overcome by idealism, I toyed with entering state politics back in about 1990 with Alexander Downer's backing. However my then wife (now deceased) did not want to be a politician's wife and thus public property, and she expressed the view that because of my idealism I would become frustrated with the compromises I'd have to make, and then become "Hell to live with." It came down to politics or keeping the wife. In the end I chose the latter partly because I thought she was right about the frustration factor.

Ideally, I think nobody should be able to dive into politics without having worked for at least 10 years in the outside world and that they should have to step down after 2 or 3 terms. (In the pre-empire days in ancient Rome, Senators had to quit and go back to their farms after 2 terms.)

More paramedics isn't going to fix the issue, just more ramping to be honest. You kind of need to fix the ramping at the source.

I mean more paramedics is always. Good addition but unless we get these hospitals under control we will just be back in the same situation.
