Basically less hospital beds means you can't clear the ED, and clogging up the ED leaves ambulances stuck in a queue.

This trend began in about 1984 when state governments all seemed to take up the idea that outpatient services run by nurses and social workers and the occasional part-time doctor or Psychologist could provide for mental health needs and GP's could handle most minor general medical issues, thus allowing the gradual closure of Psych hospitals and selling off the land. That ended the mental health services casualty system which allowed walk in and be seen, diverting Psych patients to public general hospital EDs. The other money saving step was stopping training nurses in the general hospital as an economy measure. This backfired because less nurses trained and they eventually became more expensive, and having enough nurses to keep beds open became costly.

Gradually, too, given that the original Medicare rebate on medical services has only risen by about 65% of inflation per year since 1975 when the Medibank system (later replaced as Medicare) was introduced, GP's reduced the amount bulk billing they would do.

When I was working in private practice I bulk-billed all pensioners and all the unemployed until 1987 when it had become non-viable. I gave up private practice in 2008. These days I can earn more per week filling in as a locum in a public medical team than I could in private practice - that's the reverse of what it used to be!

Went for my 3rd jab recently
Went to the Chemist and was attended to by a female Pharmacist
We are in the jab booth, she checked the form I filled out
" Is there anything else you need to tell me before i give you the Booster jab?'
I adjusted my belt and said
" Yes, I'm very large down there."
She slapped my faced and stormed out of the booth
Very inconsiderate of her, at my age an enlarged prostate is a serious matter

Marshall wants those in the cbd to return to work.
Most of those businesses have executed work from home to minimise any potential outbreak and staff having to isolate...

Restriction changes were announced on Friday, I doubt they'd ever implement easing of restrictions two business days in a row.
