Karachi next.
A little closer to the equator so hopefully there is live grass on that pitch.
Test cricket extinction if this continued.

4/552 vs 10/476

Probably fair to say we have been a little bit out played.

We really need to double think about how our bowlers approach the second test.

Apparently the last test at Karachi was a spinner paradise so we are just going to have play Swepson. For mine it’s Starc that has to make way especially if reverse swing isn’t predicted. Especially given there is a 4 day turn around and Lyon has bowled 72 overs.

Make that 4/706 for Pakistan for the match mate.
Iman cashing in with his second hundred for the match not long after Shafique made his first test hundred. From what I've watched this afternoon and evening they haven't looked troubled at all and obviously haven't decided to do anything stupid enough to throw their wicket away.

Bloody embarrassing for us……yes it’s a road but the pakis found a way to get ten wickets

4/724.

Not a great start to life after Langer.

We just dont seem to have any idea how to manufacture some wickets on the sub continent

Hang on, the Pakistan didn't really find a way to get 10 wickets themselves, they were helped by some stupid decisions and poor shot selections from the Aussie batsman- Khawaja, Smith especially and Green gifted their wickets to them.

Australia were obviously out batted though, credit to Pakistan especially their openers to be discipline enough to not throw their wickets away and completely deny the Aussie bowlers.

But you need 20 wickets to win a test match, not 10 (and we were not far off 500)
We could’ve taken only 3 or even 2, it wouldn’t have made a difference.

Palleeease don't go there, if anything, he would've made our quicks continue bowling as punishment for not getting wickets.

As TDK said, there were very few wickets that were not batter's error, chuck in the fact it's everyone's first hit over there and oh yeah, a couple of key inspirational icons passed away during the test as well.

Yes, we made an error at the selection table, Boland's omission is somewhat debatable and either Swepson or Agar needed to be included, probably at the expense of Starc.

Anyway, it's all hindsight and we are still in the box seat of holding the trophy, move on to Karachi and hopefully they bat first again.

Yes, credit where credit is due but when Smith, Labba, Head and Usi bowl 40% of our overs it hasn't caused much damage.

Yeah ill concede I might have been a bit harsh.....

I will stand by though that our first session with the ball on day 1 was extremely lacklustre especially comparing to the Pakis and the way they attacked our openers which whilst didn't get a wicket they did create some chances which they put down.

The best part is that no damage has been done and we can move on to next test, I do believe though:

-Pakistan batted smarter and were more patient
-The Pakistanis bowled with more energy, aggression and intent, felt like we were just looking to bowl good areas and just wait on a batsmen mistake, Pakistan looked to try and create some wickets with different strategies, it worked they took 10 wickets in half the time it took us to take 4.
-The Pakistanis had a lot more variety with their bowling in particular variety in tactics, we were very same/same
-The only area we outplayed the Pakistanis was that our fielding was better.

Lots of improvement need if we are to win second test, or hope they produce a pitch better suited to our pacemen.....would be surprised if that happened though all the talk is the next pitch will spin.

Also im not so fussed about holding this trophy...........I want us to win games and then win the test championship trophy.

If starc is the one to go then maybe agar spinning it away from the right handers could be the option.
Plus, he may leave some rough for Lyon to exploit with no other left armer.

Yeah true, I just thought the Pakistani openers were very good not to throw their wickets away or gift them to the Aussies (especially to the part timers you mentioned) like Khawaja, Smith and Green did during Australias innings which was very frustrating especially when they were so close to hundreds and fifties respectively. Hopefully they don't do that next innings.
