Those Menzel Boy are magnificent readers of the ball. I cant see why the Dogs sacked them.

Dogs 6.9(45)
Merged 10.11(71)

The reigning premiere to good.

For the dogs Grant Trav Pres were great.

Of the new recruits McCormack looked impressive in the ruck Reeves is a good midfielder & Beuckner is a big boy who was solid down in defence. Launer started well kicked a nice goal But faded.

Not a bad outing given the quality of the opposition

Cannot question the lads effort and attack on the ball.

Was obvious we are a young team on the rebuild, Eagles bullied us in both the ground and arial contests. Could we see our strength meant we struggled to hold many tackles.

Was a bit annoying that our zone defence from kick outs is still rubbish, us kicking a point pretty much equals opposition getting an inside 50 down there end. Has been an issue for years.

I’m pretty happy with our preseason so far, albeit i haven’t seen anything to suggest majority thinking the dogs are bottom 3 are going to be wrong. Just hoping we are competitive more weeks than not and we don’t have the end of season fade outs like in recent years

Trav 30 possessions
Pres 22
McCormack 19.
Think Billy was the most heartening thing to come out of the trial for the Dogs.
Eagles were more direct with the ball, it helps when you have targets to straighten you up.

I thought Montgomerie was good, and Gant shows a bit. Buechner looks like he could settle in pretty well at FB or CHB. We'll need our best 22 available but if we do, it looks more promising than the past 2 years.

Yes. Montie is a virtual recruit this season after his injury impacted 2021.
Agree we need to keep our top players on the park to get the wins this year.
Today we were missing Grace Iles and Matt Neagle (all will return next week) as well as Hoskin (hopes to be ready for round one), Habel (6 weeks away) and Linke & Nietschke both who won't return until deep into the season.

Of the youngsters, I also like Gant whilst Dudley could provide an X factor up forward.

I was really pleased with McCormack’s game- we could do with a couple of him! Having said that he had a good duel with Lukac in the first half who looks a handy prospect. Not convinced with Fraser as a forward.. although might work better once Grace is back. Reeves showed a bit in the second half but doesn’t seem to get a lot of it.. Pres had a shocker in the second term.. gifting a couple of goals through turnovers. As mentioned.. our best 22 will be competitive however depth looks shallow. Still a work in progress and if we can keep the group together for a couple of years there’s light at the end of the tunnel. That’s the challenge though isn’t it?

We did have some positives out of the trial .McCormack was impressive & great to see Montgomerie back playing well across half back .The Eagles even for a trial game showed their class. They were more direct than us and gave Menzel in particular a good look at the ball. For us to improve we need to move the ball much quicker instead of kicking short in defence and around the boundary. It makes it tough for our forwards when we give time for the opposition to cover them, but when we do get the ball in we need to make it as hard as possible for opposing defenders to get out again. They transition out of our forward line to easily.
Also where is Jaxon Neagle?
