Anyone hear how the Yank v Meadows trial went last Thursday?

Called in and saw a bit of the Goolwa v Victor Game (might have been the 3rd or 4th)? Goolwa had a good size bloke with a beard running in the midfield that looked good. Victor dominated the game and had a few lads who didn't look old but run hard. I didn't see McKinnon or Yeomans out there at all, but only stayed for a little while. The next 1/4 was a bit scrappy (only saw half of it) but Victor looked to have changed things up a bit, maybe trying a few things as you would in a trial game. I assume both teams had a few out

Strath v Goolwa - Strath
Victor v Creek - Creek
Yank v Bays - Bays

I’ll have a go at this too.

Willunga: even.
Langhorne Creek: even (some big name outs, but the ins I think will be more than capable.
McLaren: better.
Compass: worse? Bit of an unknown, some big outs and Hunter in - I’m sure they’ll have some other ins that we haven’t heard of yet.
Strath: even.
Bays: better.
Magpies: even.
Yank: worse.
Pongy: better. The big improvers.
Victor: better.

Round One
Compass v Willunga - Demons by 5 goals
Pongy v McLaren - Eagles by 4 goals
Strath v Magpies - Magpies by 2 goals
Victor v Langhorne - Hawks by 8 goals
Yank v Bays - Eagles by 10 goals

Predicted Finishing Positions
1. Willunga
2. McLaren
3. Langhorne Creek
-
4. Encounter Bay
5. Mount Compass
6. Myponga
-
7. Strathalbyn
8. Goolwa/Port Elliot
9. Victor Harbor
-
10. Yankalilla

- I think you these three groups of three will be really close.

Going by player HQ, Creeks only had 6 out that I can see that are still expected to play this season? Victor looked to missing 4 also including the guy from WWT who came late last year from memory (Much maybe?)

8 off the top of my head - Kellock, Dave Warren, Matt Tonkin, Alex Cleggett, James, Howell, N Thunig, Hunt
Might be another 1 or 2 ???

Smart play by Victor in the last quarter by running the clock down and fooling the umpires into letting them have 30 seconds for a shot at goals not once but 3 times when they were all well outside their range and kicking into the breeze. All 3 shots fell at least 20 metres short
If you can get away with it then why not i guess?

Not a great day for the Tigers
A & B Grade combined scores
4:2 to 57:26

It’s a long way back.
If at all

Some concerning scorelines in Round 2
Not good seeing floggings so early in the season.
Looks a long season ahead for Yank and Gwa/PE. Could also be for the Creeks as well if they dont start getting some of their experienced players back after the Easter break.

Some very concerning scores. Our league once considered the best country league in SA is under threat imo. The gap will keep getting bigger from the best to the worst. Not good.
Teams getting smashed becomes harder to attract good players, low cap and points system makes it tougher as well.

Don’t blame the Cap and Points for clubs that have made terrible decisions though

Definitely not doing that but it makes it harder for them to make up the ground.
