A lazy no footwork shot.

His position in the side is vulnerable.

This is intended to sound to harsh but more of an observation.

When I watch Trav bat I admire his hand eye ability, I admire his confidence to try and play to his strengths from ball one no matter what the situation. What I don't see from Trav though is the ability to build an innings, to adapt to conditions. Dare I say it at times he reminds of an extraordinary ammo/country batter in the way that he just comes out and his going to play 'his' shots no matter what and if it works it works and if it doesn't oh well.

There doesn't seem to be much of a plan or thought, like last night he was trying to cut the Pakistan fast bowler who was bowling reverse swing into him, he nearly got hit on the gloves a couple of time cutting. That's the kind of dumb no thinking cricket I play. Same against the spinner where he was trying to play shots against the spin often. So much premeditation as well.

In one sense its refreshing to see someone bat like that and it can work on our bouncier less movement wickets here in Oz but I just cant see how its ever going to be successful on any overseas tours. I mean I know Pant comes out and plays shots but even he has a fair bit of method behind his madness. I generally plays in certain areas early, generally identifies certain bowlers he can get after.

Like others have said its hard to see how he will ever really cement his spot in the team when the second he leaves our shores he struggles.

At present average 49 from 25 innings in Australia and only average 26 from 14 innings overseas.

Left field suggestion given Head looks a bit lost in the sub continent, would you bring Agar in for him, albeit Agar probably isn't much better than Labuschagne with the ball. From Green down move up one position especially given Carey looked good last innings against the spinners on the lower deck.....loves a sweep which tends to be fairly successful in the sub continent especially if you believe Matty Haydens theory.

It depends on whether you want t o put a band aid over a problem or do you want to repair the problem.

Trav has potentially 8-10 years left in him at the elite level, we will lose Warner and Khawaja soon enough and then Smith a couple of years after they depart, we need to build a batting line up around Marnus and Trav, one that is adaptable to all conditions, this is the lad's 5th test in Asia with scores of 0, 72, 14, 36, 8, 23 & 26, let him develop his skill set.

I really hope we can develop him because there is so much natural talent there to work with. A in form Head batting aggressively as he does is so valuable as it will allow Green and Carey the ability to build innings and not feel the pressure of run rates.

International cricket is a hard place to develop players though. If he fails in the second innings, we draw the series going winless and then he starts Sri Lanka poorly the team results will determine whether he stays. If we are winning in one sense we can 'carry' him away from home but once the wins dry up his going to be the first batter questioned.

Funny part is he has to be a lock for home tests regardless of how he performs overseas.

I reckon Head is trash but we have to persevere. Non existent footwork.

Agree- develop him
The thing is he is in a team of top order batters who are similar to each other, they are
Ussie/Blonde Don/Lab/WG allrounder
Those 4 build innings and value thier wickets
So the balance is Warner/Head/Carey and those guys have to play shots , otherwise the team has to declare on 500+ on day 3 of test matches

Head's mindset should be'
Not to be a clone of the 4 above mentioned but to be more like Hookesy, and Boof

I am an Agar hater but there is no way he is anymore than a test no.8
FC average of 27

Ashwin and Jadeja are going to make Head look silly though. I just can't think of anyone to replace him with though.

IF he actually still played first class cricket he'd be in and around the Australian test squad IMO. He hasn't played a first class match for Victoria since October 18-21 2019.

Yep Maxwell had his test career destroyed by garbage 3 game t20 international series that no one cares about. Still think if he wasn't having his wedding he would have been selected for this tour.
