I must admit that at the stage you made that comment, I would have agreed with you. A very good performance from the 20 minute mark of the second quarter onwards has instilled belief in the club for 2022 and nearly seen us pinch a win at Noarlunga, something we very rarely do.
Cheers

Centrals had an advantage in the coaches box for once. When Thomas wasn't able to coach the game was always going to be close.

Looks like we will have something to look forward to this season. When we got our work rate and teamwork going it made South accountable. Different game then. But we went back to trying to outmark South in the last few minutes instead of spoiling the contest and using our mobility. Still, it was a decent first up game. We'll be better with Hoskin back, hopefully playing up forward. Jordan Tippins played pretty well for his debut. In fact all 8 new players did. McCormack is a talent - he'll get better.
We had a good win in the reserves. Taj Krieg put in a couple of impressive cameos - bustling through a ball up to kick a goal, then later intercepting a South pass in broken play to kill off their fightback.

We kicked 12 goals and lost,
struggled to kick 12 goals in any game in the past 3 years,
promising signs.

I reckon 7 of the 8 debutants did fine. Kendall was off the pace, hopefully he finds his feet quickly.
The team is definitely more even than over the last 4 years. Travis is looking in his best nick since 2019, and would have been BOG for us.
Souths multiple talls up forward posed a threat in those stages of the game that we couldnt exert pressure in the mids.

In the twos, Billy Iles slayed it and several youngsters looked great. One who surprised with his clean skills and tenacity was Pat Hillard.

Results in the opening round, and the closeness of the games, indicates this is a very open year.

Fantastic effort by South winning without their coach! Can only get better.
Ordinary signs for the Dogs.

A few posters on here will be disappointed we got so close to South after they predicted at least a 10 goal loss .Cant question the effort or commitment of the boys today they tried their guts out and just couldnt quite get over the line.Whilst disappointing to lose if we play like that every week and have a crack thats all we can ask for and hopefully turn games into wins.

Fantastic effort by the Dogs if they didn't have their coach today, very unexpected. Can only get better.
Ordinary signs for South.

(Could have sworn it was the South coach who was out today, sorry folks)

Fair effort by the Roosters today beating the reigning premier on their home deck. Completely unexpected.
North have a lot of exciting players, just a shame their away guernsey was so horrid.
Was a really fun day at Woodville,

North too good, should have won by more.
A kick up the bum for the Eagles which hopefully they learn from.

Can fault the endeavour but if you can’t do the basics you ain’t worth a burnt crumpet. So many players can’t hit a pass 20m away or stick a tackle. And don’t get me start on the goal kicking. Don’t let a few goals in junktime deceive you either, the scoreboard flattered us in the end

Entertaining game at Noarlunga. Plenty of new faces for the home side, with just 7 of the 2021 prelim final team fronting up.

A 10+ goal drubbing look possible at one point before the Dogs took control and got their nose in front late. A tumbling kick on the run from Kreamer put South back in front with about 5 mins remaining and they held on.

7 goals between recruits Menzie and Garthwaite, particularly impressed with the Taswegian.
