It's mid April next week.

If the payout figure is the same now or at the end of the season then why not do it now?
Why wait?
Gives them more time to find another coach and prepare for next year.

I don’t see them gaining anything by waiting if they are pulling the trigger at seasons end anyway

As noted above he's not getting moved on because of repeated failures, back to back prelims earns him the right to see the season out IMO.

The people in charge can start looking now, you don't appoint someone mid year so no need to have a blood bath mid year, I hate that look. Then you might end up with an "exhaustive search" like Rhys Shaw, when it was because he won a few games late, we could get sucked into the same with Bassett or Montgomery.

How would Ken and the players feel though if they know Kochie and Co. are looking for a new coach?
I think it’s more respectful to part ways now instead of waiting as it never plays out well that way.

Hypothetically if Clarko wanted it can he take the reigns mid season?
He’s not contracted by the AFL in any capacity is he?

I take it from this, that paying back the SANFL loan / debt is something they could do but just don't want to do :-?

did he get paid out for 2022 from the Hawks? Maybe that will stop him.
Either way I don't see Clarko wanting the Port job.

Or even Buckley.
I’m sure Fox would release him from his contract if it was possible to pickup the reins mid season.

I can’t remember a time in the post VFL to AFL landscape where it has happened this way.

If Port sack Hinkley mid year and appoint Buckley or Clarkson I'll.....I'll.....not say something stupid here but that just would not happen. With respect, ridiculous to think it would.

He won't be sacked early, the Port nuffies will leave their memberships on the ground and go to town on the FB pages but realistically the club has to support Ken for the season.

Kochie wants Kenny there, the supporters want results, the supporters determine Kenny's fate with their feet, if the tarps come out then he'll be out by season's end.

As much as I've lost my faith in Kenny being the right man for the job, unless we nab one of the big 3 in the pool atm we may as well offer it to Booney, or let Ken see if he can put the cart back on the tracks, we've generally had an ability to get drag ourselves out of a hole under him though, time will tell.

Regardless, I'll continue to support them and then throw my support behind an underdog if our season turns to shit.

You seen how happy Buckley is in the media? He does not return to coaching IMO. Such a different guy now.

His playing and coaching career suggests he's a driven man, sure he looks to be enjoying his time in the media but I reckon the focus for him will shift back to coaching soon.

When Hinkley gets moved on Buckley would be $1.01 to get the gig in my book.
