Useless facts about Gryan Miers :

He has siblings Ryger, Jadey and Jarna.

His Dad invented the X Blades football boots.

I, along with many others, vomit in my mouth when I think of the juniors coaches who let him down.

Are they real facts?

a) Strange set of names.
b) I loved X blade boots - only real brand that was suitable for my fat duck shaped feet.

FWIW I actually thought his last quarter was ok the other day.

In general I think most right footers kick better on the left than left footers can kick on the right.

That said. Left footers rule.

Yeah seems to be a bit of a luxury skill these days.

I still remember old coaches always saying if you can kick both feet, handball both hands you cant play the game.

So many of the current AFL players are extremely one sided.

Re: Geelong

Normally after a Geelong loss, especially at Cat Park, I'm grumpy AF. Or more so as Mrs REB would say. However, after yesterday's game I was more focused on, and more envious of, the development of the Fremantle Dockers. Sometimes Cat Park does our work for us, we get a couple of quick goals, the oppo drops their head and kick it out on the full and it's four points banked.

Yesterday Geelong were up 4 goals to 1 in the first quarter with Hawkins and Cameron already on the board. But then our midfield barely got a sniff for almost the rest of the game. One of our few young players Max Holmes went down and Geelong did not have the resources in the running department to cover him, on came Dahlhaus of all people. It began in the latter half of the first quarter...Geelong wanted to run and gun but Freo just shut us down with a disciplined and well structured back six. Even with Young and Chapman not in the side the Dockers all play to a solid system, playing as a cohesive defensive unit that has all the hallmarks of a genuine contender.

By the time Geelong staggered to three quarter time we had registered our lowest amount of scoring shots at home since 1964 and we've had plenty of crap sides over the period. If it wasn't for the seriously massive game of Tom Stewart we would have been out of the contest but the reality was that Freo were on top all over the ground. The fact that Blake Akers, who is nobody's Patrick Cripps, was dominating says plenty about our midfield group. We don't have the outside run so we try to close it down to prevent getting smashed in the clearances. This suits Acres as he has a bigger body than our midfield group so he got on top. We structured up in such a way to maximise our chances of victory and despite the fact that Duncan, Cameron, and Smith had an absolute mare we almost pinched that. It would have been highway robbery but we almost pinched it.

Our rebuild began yesterday and the Fremantle Dockers should be our model. The sides on the up will pass Geelong this year and Freo is obviously one of them. Geelong will go from six to ten this year but if we are continuously trotting out our oldest side each week I hope it's more ten than six. We are rolling out the unsuccessful team of last decade two years past their use by date because there has been no second tier football in Victoria thanks to COVID and our club has spent years trading away what few decent draft picks we get.

Expect to see plenty of new cats this season and a few more Cat losses. We've now dropped three of or last five at Cat Park and we've only won six of our last thirteen. If Rex Hunt was about he'd be warming up the fat lady.

regards,

REB

Cameron didn't kick a goal yesterday according to the stats? Who played on him?

I asked on the Round 7 topic yesterday- Tom Stewart had 40 disposals and 14 marks, 70% in the defensive half. Were Freo kicking it to him/into his area alot or did Geelong have alot of uncontested possession in their defensive half?

Logue was his main opponent but Jezza was his own worst enemy. Reckon he played in 'slicks' seeing as he fell over so often. Starting to get a rep for going missing against top opposition. Anyone can dine out against North. As for Stewart he reads the play beautifully. His running patterns were elite and he won plenty of contested ball it wasn't just Freo picking him out. Were we would be without him is anyone's guess.
