Not enjoying the crawl down South Rd this evening, I turned off to cut through Edwardstown, and was immediately stopped by the boom gates at the train crossing.

SEVEN minutes later - having waited for FOUR seperate trains - the boom gates finally lifted.

So I drove forward across the tracks and continued down the street. Within 30 seconds I glanced in the rear vision mirror and saw red flashing lights. The boom gates were down again. Within. Thirty. Bloody. Seconds.

Somewhere there is an idiot in charge of road safety, who determined the deficient algorithm by which these boom gates function. I hope there is a special corner of hell reserved for this person, in which (s)he will spend eternity waiting behind a boom gate which never rises.
