Mr Beefy wrote:I see the VFL has increased their cap.

The salary cap has been increased from $200,000 to $220,000 for VFL standalone clubs and from $100,000 to $110,000 for the AFL and AFL-aligned outfits, with a key concession added in a bid to encourage senior experienced players to remain in the competition and develop their coaching skills.

Clubs can pay $10,000 outside the cap for playing coaches, with a number of clubs already having announced a strong line-up of playing coaches for 2022.

Must be a sudden influx of money into the VFL. Doubled the cap for non aligned clubs.

Some of our men should identify as women and join the AFLW.
The top tier will be paid $71,935, while the minimum AFLW wage will increase from $20,239 to around $39,184.

Given the SANFL's (and other state leagues for that matter) main role is to develop footballers and act as a pathway for footballers to get to the highest level then surely there's a way the AFL can channel more money into those leagues to increase the salary cap to then pay players more making it worth worthwhile and keep them in the SANFL system for longer?

How do SANFL players feel seeing players of lesser ability getting that paid sort of money?

All we want is an even playing field.

Shame on you AFL

To put this into perspective (and at the risk of people calling me a misogynist), this is the same as an apprentice being paid the same as a fully qualified tradie, it's a joke,
surely there's females out there that understand?

A number of females I talk to who follow footy can't or won't watch AFLW given the standard. So I would say plenty understand, if my social circle is anything to go by. They welcome the female participation, but won't take in all the hype that goes with it.
I don't see it as a male v female thing, far from it. What the pay deal demonstrates is the power of the AFL brand, along with a prevailing orthodoxy in parts of society (and many large sporting organizations) that equality overrides fairness.

Which salary cap are you talking about? The one for the eight dinkum clubs, or the $10m salary cap for the two interlopers?

The one for the original SANFL teams of course, not the AFL reserves teams.
