Yeah that's obviously the key for NZ, get Root ASAP and they'll probably win but surely he'll go on and gets a hundred now to see England home? He is also 33 runs away from 10000 test match runs.

You got it 100% correct, was hoping an early wicket would add some tension

Wonderful innings by a wonderful player. Blokes had to carry this lot for 2 years and he thoroughly deserves to finally win a test match.

Let's hope he relishes the freedom of not being the skipper, he's a very likeable Englishman,

Most likeable England cricketers Ive seen
This is for demeanor- I would have a different 12 on who I like watching perform

In alphabetical order my likeable 12
Atherton
Cowdrey
Grace
Gough
Hick
Knott
Lamb
Lyold
Randell
Root
Willis
Wood

Off all of them I would rate Joe Root as the most likeable player Ive seen that's played for England

Off field and in commentary theres no BIGger name that David Lyold

The only bloke on that list who was a bigger cheat than the great W.G. was Mike Atherton!!

I'd have Tufnell in the likeable players......geez he was bang average but he had a fair dinkum crack and genuinely saw the funny side to his averageness.

Reminds me a lot of a cricketing James Blunt.

Andrew Flintoff
Gladstone Small
David Steele (but then again I am a Northants supporter ;) )

Agreed re WG - known to have, on several occasions, when given out, command to stay in as 'the crowd had come to see him bat' - he got away with it too!

Stokes sends NZ in.
England going with the same eleven they initially selected in the first test.
NZ has 3 changes, Williamson out with Covid, de Grandhomme injured and Patel dropped, in comes Nicholls, Henry and Michael Bracewell makes his debut.
