How much was the captaincy weighing on Joe Root, looks like a huge weight has been lifted off his shoulders and is batting wonderfully well.

Can see a big 200 coming up here maybe 300 if the tail can hang in there

Out for 176 but agree with you, batting incredibly well and just did what he wanted dominating the NZ attack.
Best batsman in the world now and you'd think he'll overtake Labuschagne in the test batting rankings now.

England 6/518, trail by 35.
Foakes 55*

Jamieson not fielding today or bowling for the rest of the innings due to pain in his lower back and Southee is going the journey 32 overs, 1 maiden 0/154. Henry going at 4.74 an over too. Boult holding things together, has 4/103.

England all out for 539
Boult 5/106, his 10th five wicket haul.

NZ second innings 1/4
Latham gets knocked over trying to leave the ball and gives Anderson his 650th test wicket.

NZ lead by 238 with 3 wickets remaining

may only be 2 if Jamieson can't bat.

Poms favourites to go 2-0 up
Dave Warner will be missed!

Getting into 50/50 territory. 280 ahead with one wicket. About 74 overs left.

Get another 20 and I think draw.

Strange tactics by England. How about bowl at the bloody stumps when Boult is on strike

They only got another 18, so I guess it's game on.

Yep, didn't even look to bowl a yorker to Boult and if there's any shot he loves playing its the pull shot! That's a handy 35 run partnership for the 10th wicket, Boult basically hits his average and Mitchell finishes 62*, he's be outstanding so far.

Boult finally holds out to Anderson who strangely only bowled 8.4 overs in the innings getting the first and last wickets.

Boult now has the most runs by a number 11 in test match cricket. Not all heroes wear capes! :)

No Jamieson means England are in the box seat IMO but hopefully Boult and Southee can get some early wickets.

It's a pity Wagner can't bowl. Maybe Jamieson should have head butted one of those bouncers and they could have played the concussion card and subbed in Wagner.

Yeah I was initially surprised initially that Henry was preferred to Wagner but I guess NZ expected the pitch to not be this flat. You'd think he'll definitely play in the third test now.
