Then again England may have the fire power to chase that down with Root, Bairstow, Stokes and Pope, but surely just surely Bairstow has to miss out shortly

Bairstow proves you wrong :D

Four centuries in last five innings, plus Root continues to score hundreds, truly remarkable effort with the new coach and captain.

Root and Bairstow literally did what they wanted during that innings, made the Indian bowlers look like park cricketers. What an absolute domination.

England's highest ever successful run chase.

Well its time to rehash a few agendas posted on this site :

Does anyone think 20/20 cricket is completely ruining Test cricket batting techniques ?
Does the poster who posted that the England team that toured Australia recently was the worst ever still think that?
Does the poster who said you cant play 2 wicketkeepers in the same Test team line up, specifically the selection of The John [ Bairstow]

I will start things running- the absolute know all who posted you cant play Bairstow and a keeper in a line up , was ME !
I posted that once about The John.

They ain’t beating us. Their top order is garbage. Lees and Crawley are genuine crabs and Pope would struggle to get a game at the Redbacks. Root and Fat Johnny will have to score the bulk of runs but Johnny is a scared kitten against us. They don’t have a spin bowler and their ageing attack will be another year older.
We would absolutely flog them if we played tomorrow

Can't really disagree with that, especially in regards to Leach and with the way Stokes has publicly backed him he won't be replaced by another spinner anytime soon.
I'm now interested to see how Lees, Crawley and Pope handle an attack consisting of any of Rabada, Nortje, Ngidi, Jansen and Olivier in the upcoming series. I hope all of them remain available for selection, especially Rabada and Nortje.

I'm not sold we are going to be clear winners in the next Ashes over there.

I agree there batting is average apart from Root, Bairstow and Stokes but our batting isnt exactly world beating either in their conditions.

-Warner has had all sorts of troubles with Broad.
-Khawaja has batted 12 times in England for an average of 19.
-Head has batted 8 times in England for an average of 27. He averages 25 outside of Australia
-Green first series over there. I love the bloke and think he is our future but England will test him especially that big front pad that they successfully targeted in the last ashes series.
-Alex Carey is improving with each innings but he has definitely looked more capable against the spinners. England had a lot of success against him the last series.

Watching Anderson against India I wouldn't be concerned with his age if he can continue to hoop the ball with the control that he has. He could go another five years in their conditions.

We cant underestimate the poor preparation England had over here, between all the covid isolating, lack of tour games etc they had no idea what their best 11 was when they hit our shores. It wont be the same over there.

Going to be a great series, cant wait for it. I think we can win it but not by more than one test.

Given a Test Series right now between Australia and England here's how I think a series would pan out.

AU 4-1 IN AUSTRALIA
EITHER TEAM 3-2 IN ENGLAND [but probably 2-2 as rain might draw off one of the tests]

Quite simply where the series is played largely determines the result and often irrespective of the line ups.

Would be interesting to know whether home teams are winning more tests in the this decade compared to say 2000-2010.

My gut feel would be a place like England is harder to win at now due to not having the lead in tour games you once had. I wouldn't think as many of the test/fringe test players are playing the country scene either due to t20 commitments.

Would this also apply for a place like India where you feel warm up games would be so critical. Obviously there is blokes playing over there in t20's but there test conditions and t20 pitch conditions are completely different.

I don't think it's ridiculous to say we can beat you in england. The series was 2 all last time and we only had Jimmy for 4 overs the entire series. Our top 3 is a big issue obviously but I'd say you don't have a great opening pair in england and you will be very reliant on two guys as you were last time. Australia is favourites but we are certainly a chance in England due to conditions being more favourable for our bowlers.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/eng- ... an-1323271
India have been docked two World Test Championship (WTC) points for maintaining a slow over rate in the Edgbaston Test, which they lost by seven wickets to England for the series to end at 2-2. As a result of the penalty, India currently have 52.08 percentage points, a shade lower than Pakistan's 52.38, and are down to No. 4 on the WTC table, below Australia, South Africa and Pakistan.

The members of India's playing XI in the Edgbaston Test, the fifth of the series that began last year but had to be completed now because of a Covid-19 scare in the Indian camp at the time, have also been fined 40% of their match fees.

This is the second time India have been penalised for the same offence in the England series, and third time overall, in the current WTC cycle. They lost two points in the series opener in Nottingham - a Test that was drawn after a final-day washout - and another point in Centurion on their tour of South Africa in January. Their tally of deducted points in the current cycle stands at five.

The development could have a significant bearing on India's chances of making the WTC final. In the previous cycle, Australia narrowly missed out on making the title round after being docked four points in the Boxing Day Test against India. With their away tour of South Africa cancelled because of Covid-19, Australia fell below New Zealand, who beat India in the final.

According to the ICC guidelines, players are fined 20% of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl within the allotted time after time allowances are taken into consideration. In addition, the WTC playing conditions say, a side is penalised one point for each over they fail to bowl within the stipulated time. Since India fell short by two overs at Edgbaston, they lost two points.

Good point mate and I was thinking a similar thing when Jarrod Kimber has discussed how much home teams are winning in the modern era briefly in his podcasts and I don't think he's done an individual piece (arricle/video) on it yet so I hope he covers that kind of thing soon.

Thanks to Tim Paine's monumentally poor decision-making costing us not one but two test matches last time out.

Just to touch on this match Locky as it finished yesterday (day 5) with Pakistan winning by 4 wickets chasing down 344.
It's Pakistan's second highest successful forth innings run chase.

Pakistani opener Abdullah Shafique finished with 160* from 408 balls batting for 524 mins. That's the third longest innings by minutes in a forth innings and the third highest individual score in successful forth innings run chase.

Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya took 9/217 from 95.2 overs for the match. Opening the bowling in Pakistan's second innings he bowled 56.2 overs out of the 127.2 overs they faced.

An opening batsman going big and batting a huge amount of time and a spinner bowling a massive amount of overs, the match sure went the distance while managing to come to a result with Sri Lanka still a chance to win until the end, good to see.
