If you don't show signs of getting back to winning consistently, ultimately crowds at games starts to dwindle along with membership.
I can't see that happening in the short term.

I can feel a board spill or some sort of coup in the wind.

Bingo, as much as I dislike Brayshaw he had enough back bone to stand up to the AFL and had the support of those around him. Do these leaders have it in them? Can't even stick to a plan for more than 18 months before they second guess themselves.

With North / the AFL having Geoff Walsh inside the four walls they can start to have some influence over those making the decisions, ie resisting playing more games in Tasmania.

As for the Tasmanian government saying they'd only financially support a stand alone Tasmanian team, that's called starting negotiations high.

If push comes to shove Tassie government would accept a relocated team.
The free tourism marketing alone would be worth 5 million.
The number crunchers at treasury, if they're half smart (yep drawn a long bow there) will know its an injection and investment to their long term economy.

We are at our lowest ebb yet our membership is at a record level, but don't let facts get in the way of good spin

We have won 8 out of our last 55 games, coming off a wooden spoon year, not sure how it gets worse from here, yet have record membership.

I DON"T know the breakdown of your membership.

Membership without game packages really means not much to the club. Thus a breakdown of membership type is always good to know. Yours may be high.

I know that for several years the Swans second and fourth highest categories were junior and pet which had no tickets attached.

What we gave up vs what we've got? Don't be silly.

Nothing to do with that. Nice deflection though.

Essendon would be well pleased with what they gave up and what they got, if that's what you meant.

Nothing to do with Essendon, it's what Port gave up and got ( Fantasia ) vs what North gave up and got ( Polec and Pittard ), neither are thrilled with what they got but Port gave up much less.

The same way GWS and Gold Coast survived.

Crowds are one thing - gaining $$'s off field is paramount, sponsorship, TV rights, coterie.

A mate of mine is a North member.

All I kept hearing during that time was Caro and others in the media banging on about moving to the GC because it was 'common sense'. I quizzed my mate about this and he said if North move, they're done and dusted. I can't remember the details but I did read the proposal and I think the AFL were going to help them for 2 maybe 3 years then they were on their own (something like that). I read it and thought that they'd be mad to move to the GC, a place where no team has survived long term - the current GC aside because of financial propups. It just didn't make sense TO move.
