There's games at both MCG and Docklands scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. (Soccer match on Friday at MCG.)

Probably have to play it Monday night if they can't do Alice.

Look forward to Booney's take on yesterdays game. For me really felt a lot like the Freo game, and a missed opportunity for Port.

They'll "just" miss the 8 - and that'll be the story of the year.. close but not close enough.

Loses to Brisbane (11pts), Adel (4pts), Carlton (3pts), Freo (8pts), Melb (14pts) have really been the defining points of the season and all matches winnable or in winnable positions.

Yesterday seemed like Port had a plan and method to handle Melb and it worked - until the second half then poor decisions, turnovers and missed opportunities hurt them. Even in the last quarter seemed a chance but two goals on turnover as Melbourne went D50 to goal blew the game out of reach.. and then Port seemed to just fall back into a panic mode of old habits, blasting long and direct to Melbourne outnumbers, who continued to take intercept marks.

Bonner was putrid - soft around the contest, made really poor fundamental errors and just didn't look ever like he was in the game. Amon defensively was poor as well. Who cares if this bloke has a great kick, it's no good if his direct opponent is chopping up because he wont apply any defensive work.

Georgiades struggled.

Jackson Mead is an interesting one, I'm not sure what it is he brings to the squad at the moment apart from leg speed, I don't see him as particularly useful with ball in hand

It comes as no surprise that a series of missed opportunities and lapses in concentration resulted in Port Adelaide's 9th loss of the year, a 14 point defeat at the hands of Melbourne in the red centre of Alice Springs.

The first quarter resembled two sides out of touch, Port Adelaide's midfield had some ascendency but once again the half forward line broke down and opportunities went begging while the Melbourne forward line continued to splutter, they couldn't register a major in the first term, the first time in season 2022 they have gone goalless in the opening quarter. Port had the upper hand in clearances and Melbourne had laid more tackles suggesting Port had the better of the play. Dixon was holding his own against Gawn, Marshall continued his form in front of goal, Rozee was again winning ball in the midfield, not using it particularly well, Boak was working into the game and Port's back half of Burton, Houston, Bonner and DBJ were taking risks and creating space for the forwards with their ball movement. Unfortunately that ball movement broke down, again, as it entered the forward 50.

Finlayson opened up the second term to take Port out to a 15 point lead but that was soon eroded by goals to Pickett, the first of his 6, Fritsch and Jackson in quick succession and Melbourne have the lead. The game had gone up a notch and Melbourne, particularly in transition looked far more dangerous. When they had to work through Port's defensive zone they struggled, when they ran and went over it they opened the game up. Bergman kicked the first of his two with a freakish check side, Dixon added another after a dubious 50m penalty before Pickett nailed his second snap of the term and at half time if was Port's midfield v Pickett. 24-12 clearances and the Port midfield are doing their but, so too is Pickett.

In the third term, once more, Port started strong, Rozee flushed one from outside 50, Bergman in the right spot at the right time for his second and from here things went south. Pickett had his third and fourth in no time as Melbourne went on a 7 goal blitz that Port had little answer for. The Melbourne forward half might have taken some time to get into gear but their back half was well on top, Tomlinson, Brayshaw, Hibberd and key men May and Lever had options galore exiting Port's forward half as the tireless Jordan and Langdon gave them a target on the wide expanses of Trager Park. Petracca evened up the clearance ledger and Gawn began to have an impact in the middle and around the ground.

Some junk time fun late as Boak, Marshall and Drew added some majors to bring the Power within 13 points with under 5 minutes to play, Melbourne had control and took control as they ran down the clock to run out 14 point winner, Pickett's 6 majors lighting up the red centre more than the illuminated light towers did on a bright sunny day.

More touches, more marks, more inside 50, more inefficiency in attack. Season 2022, that comes to an end in 5 weeks, in a nutshell.

Boon's best - Rozee, Boak, Houston, Dixon, Byrne-Jones,

In September 2021 Albert was inspired to find out more about his amazing grandpa. He wanted to document his whole life and have it in one place for the family. Never in his wildest dreams did Albert ever think that a published book would be created. After countless hours of working with his dad, Ben, Albert was able to capture Russell's fascinating and unbelievable life.

A large amount of the proceeds from this book will be used to support four of Russell's deserving charities and programs. These include Novita, where Russell spent over 30 years raising money, the Red Cross Lifeblood, where he donated blood for decades, the Leukaemia Foundation, which kept him going during his biggest fight, and finally, the Port Community Program, which Russell helped set up and run.

With Geelong rolling into town on an 8 game winning streak sitting a top of the ladder the task in front of Port Adelaide was clear, not only would the Cats test every part of Port Adelaide's game but they would keep coming and that's how it played out, Geelong running out 12 point winners after a pulsating final term.

With both sides entering the contest without a recognised ruckman the opening term was played as football should be played, hard, tough and both sides looking to score. Mitch Georgiades had the opening goal inside the first minute, Sam Powell-Pepper leading the charge for Port Adelaide added another moments later and Port had the early break. The next 3 went the way of the Cats before Marshall and the most elegant of left boots Kane Farrell responded and Port had taken back the lead. Goals to Rohan ( his second ) and Cameron had the Cats leading at 1/4 time but the game was on even keel.

Dangerfield matched Georgiades with a goal in the opening minute of the second, Georgiades soon replied with his second and the contest belied the ladder positions of the two sides. The contest was hot, the ball movement swift and both sides were scoring. The 10 minutes prior to half time couldn't have gone any worse for Port Adelaide, Miers, Close, Cameron and a howler from Burton allowed Smith to kick Geelong's 4th goal in 10 minutes, 8 of the last 9 and take what looked to be a match winning 34 point lead into the half time break.

Port though, as it has done throughout the year, played a scintillating 30 minutes of football after half time, Jeremy Finlayson took control in the middle and in the front half Charlie Dixon took young gun Sam De Koning to the cleaners with an outstanding individual performance. Goals to Powell Pepper, Dixon and Georgiades third on the back of 5 inside 50's. The Cats were on the back foot. Stengle steadied only to have Dixon nail his second, Gray, McEntee, Marshall and Boak joined the party and the Adelaide Oval crowd was up and about. 8 goals ( from 19 I50 ) to 1 and the last break has Port in front by 7 points.

I mentioned above that Geelong would keep coming, this time though the charge wasn't led by rarely seen Selwood and Dangerfield but the next group of Geelong midfielders the impressive Atkins, the smooth moving Guthrie ( the good one ) and Cameron who had his third goal just 15 seconds into the term. Stengle added another and the arm wrestle was on. Dixon and Georgiades both had chances to add to their tally but missed before Karl Amon slotted a major from the top of the 50m arc and once again Port had the lead. In what ultimately became an important piece of play Dixon rolled an ankle and left the field for a period of time, his dominance in the air was lost and Geelong held Port in their defensive 50 as the target down the line had gone. Into time on and on the back of this territory dominance the Port back line became disjointed, Hawkins with two out bodied Clurey to kick his third and put the Cats in front, when he kicked his 4th from the arc the game was over and the top of the table Cats had survived.

I'll never be happy with a loss, however it would have been easy to roll over and let the top of the table side run all over you but when the likes of Powell-Pepper, Dixon and Boak lead the way the heart beat of this team is still there.

Based upon the conclusions that are immediately jumped to in these kind of circumstances, particularly by media types, i'm just going to assume that the sign being removed is a clear indication they are being re-located to Tasmania to become the Port Arthur Prisoners.... in a deal struck which allow them to wear the Prison Bars.

Not that I figure the person responsible would think at all, let alone in depth, but that sort of behaviour would be dismissed by the club as an extremist working alone when the sentiment across the supporter base is that it is time to move Hinkley on. Reasoned and researched correspondence in numbers would be far more valuable to the cause than defacing club property.

I thought Port were sensational on Saturday. There were times when my mob was out of the contest. Geelong also has a habit of dissappearing for a quarter but that would do Port an injustice as they dug deep to save their season. I'm not sure what Rhys Stanley needs to do to be recognised as a ruckman becaue his dominance in the first half was a key to the Geelong's early ascendancy on the scoreboard and in terms of free kicks as your blokes gave away a few in the ruck. As soon as Stanley was subbed out Port came out and whipped our arse. You are spot on about the diminishing importance of Selwood and Dangerfield but not so spot on about Zac Guthrie being 'the bad one'. Zuthrie is just another Cat who has improved out of sight. He's probably still not best 22 but we now know he can handle the job when he is in the side, something that you couldn't say eighteen months ago.

That was a great game of footy and I wasn't the only Cat in Australia that was mightly relieved to get the points. Port at the Oval is no cakewalk and that crowd was hostile AF! Just what we need for when we play the Pies in the finals.

In all seriousness the arguments are about Selwood going on or not equally apply to Boak.

Both from the same draft, both inspirational leaders for their teams. Yes one plays more inside than the other but to me they are both champions of our game who deserve the same respect as to if and when they “pull stumps”
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Indeed. He's done now and Danger is worse. Selwood is still willing but he is super slow. Gets caught a lot. It's time for Parfitt, Stevens, Knevitt and Stephens. Dude has nothing to prove. As the ulitmate club man you'd expect him to know when it's time to walk away.

Boak hasn't slowed down as quickly as Selwood has not that pace was Selwood's best asset it was his ability to be at each contest and impact upon it, that's not what it was. Boak hasn't copped anywhere near the punishment Selwood has. Boak might play 3 more years.

This is a fair call. Selwood was a battering ram and this year should be his last. The game in particular against Collingwood was sad as to how far he has fallen from his best. Getting stuck into him proved a mistake by the young Pies however.

I hope he retires at the end of the year on a high. He was BOG a few weeks ago. Nothing worse than a champion playing on longer than they should. They deserve to be remembered for their entire career, not their last year which sometimes unfortunately happens when they struggle after going on longer than they should have.

Does it really? Are people only going to remember, for example, Robbie Gray for this season? Or if Dusty retires, this year, I dont think so.
