Hang on folks, we need a balanced view on this.
Let me list all the advantages of having Port remain in the SANFL:

Agree, things in the SANFL would have to be pretty awful for them to move on.....cost being one. What would we guess the cost to be though......

Just some real rough maths and appreciating they could get some deals but if you had 30 people (21 players + 9 support staff) travelling to Melbourne ten times a year at $100 return the cost just to fly the team would be $30k. I would also say you would need one night stay hotel room given the current climate regarding flights/cancellations etc. If you had 2 players a room for 10 away games at $100 that's another $15k.

Then presuming their might be some add on costs such as buses to and from hotel, potentially paying for players food/drinks, potentially increased staffing wages to pack up/pack down equipment etc for travel.

This is also on the presumption the AFL cant align all Power reserves games with their AFL teams, there would be cost savings if they could be aligned.

Your tally is based on 10 away games? So there are 10 or so occasions where similar costs are imposed on the other teams in the comp to play here? Do Port (and maybe the Crows too) cover those?

But it's not about winning anyway (not to them it isn't), it's all about "grooming."

In other areas, you get in a lot of trouble for "grooming"

I would be most pleasantly surprised if they left but it’s much more likely to be the usual posturing for yet more concessions… and we all know how that usually ends..
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Hopefully the SANFL call their bluff and get rid of them .
Contrary to the delusional Port supporters who think the Magpies still exist we dont need them

Kochie looking for excuses for their failure for the 2022 season (the master of diversion!!) :

(1) bringing the constant yearly prison bar jumper issue and (2) Port reserves not getting a fair deal by the SANFL and having a sook that players are not developing (they are paying nothing to the SANFL but the Crows do pay $$$ to play in the competition).

What made me laugh more was Roo and Ditts on Triple M this morning saying the SANFL would be irrelevant if the "Magpies and Crows" left the competition. They both did not even challenge Kochie at all. Just seemed to agree with him saying Port are getting a poor deal by the SANFL.

Honestly, I am sick of hearing from Port. Take your bat and ball and P$$$ off !!!!

Therein lies the problem with the reporting of this issue. Most media types appear totally unaware of how little the cancers bring to the SANFL. Hardly surprising in the case of these two bozos, of course.

as for riccutio and dittmar claiming our comp would be irrelevent without the two reserves sides i have four points to make

1.2020, they werent allowed to play, it was a close, magnificent (albeit shortened) season

2. Riccutio has absolutely no respect for the sanfl, has proved it time and time again

3. Shittmar still calls the power reserves the magpies!, shows his intelligence level

4. it is those two gronks who are irrelevent when it comes to sanfl, they simply have NFI!!

Have been told by a West Adelaide supporter mate that Roo won’t even go near the club at all.

He has no time for the bloke.

The bloke played for little over a year for Westies before spending the rest of his career at another club, that's not unexpected that he doesn't go there.

I suspect as others have mentioned that it is both a deflection to take the heat off Hinkley and an ambit claim to get a better deal from the SANFL.

Port Adelaide magpies since its merger with the Port Adelaide AFL franchise has become "one club."
The fact is, the only reason the magpie name still exists, is a marketing exercise by the AFL franchise to garner support from those magpie diehards who still embrace the sanfl magpies.
The Port Adelaide Magpies team that currently plays in the sanfl is in fact an AFL reserves team, playing by license in the SANFL.
Port Adelaide have NOT been a member club of the SANFL since the "one club" merger.
Like the Crows they do NOT have a delegate who sits on the SANFL League club delegates table.
The Crows are paying the SANFL to field a reserves side in the SANFL.-Port Adelaide are not.

Before the "one club" merger the SANFL bailed Port Adelaide out of financial ruin - both SANFL and AFL (when they held the license) on numerous occasions .In fact the week before Port Adelaide played its first game at Adelaide Oval,Port asked the SANFL for a further 1 mill to see them through.
The SANFL went into debt, to borrow money to give to Port Adelaide to keep them afloat. Port Adelaide could not get a loan from anyone.

The SANFL have bent over backwards for Port Adelaide. they have helped them financially to survive. The SANFL have changed vast numbers of rules and requirements for them to field a team in the SANFL and compromised the competition to accommodate them.

As for Kochy bleating about a game where Finlayson was the only senior player representing them in an SANFL game earlier in the year....Not that he would know or even care...but Finlayson's salary alone would be more than double the opposing teams entire salary cap for the year.

If Port Adelaide want a better deal, then go elsewhere.
