I actually don’t hate Ken.
He has done a good job at Port and come in when the club was on its knees. Yes I think he has probably stayed on a touch too long but after just missing out on a GF a couple of years back he had every right to think they were not that far off.
We all like to make jokes about him but he has undoubtedly left Port in a better place than when he started.
I’d rather Ken than Ross, Buckley etc and definitely over Hird

Fair assessment, I think Kenny would be a good fit for you guys.

If you ever went down the Hird track again I would burn everything I own that is black and red. He should be banned from head jobs forever.

Well bucks certainly made it clear he doesn't want the job.
Other than Lyon, who else would be in the running?

This gets lost on many, he oversaw a very quick and quality turnaround at Alberton (albeit it takes good decisions from all key stakeholders not just the coach). Would have been a good fit for either North or Essendon imho.

Stability and continuity must count for something.

Hinkley for instance - yes 10yrs at the helm and perhaps over stayed - but has been able to form his own style, build his list and work towards something.

I saw a stat earlier that showed Essendon coaches since Sheedy:

O'Donnell - 1 game
Knights - 67 games
Hird - 85 games
Goodwin - 1 game
Thompson - 23 games
Egan - 3 games
Worsfold - 107 games
Rutten - 43 games

That includes like 5 coaches in 5 years?

The new Prez said experienced coach required. No one knows if that means someone who has been a head coach before or someone with many years experience as a assistant.
If we say both then I think in no particular order:
Lyon
Buckley
Cameron
Hinkley
Chocco
Pyke
Leppitsch
Kingsley
Burns
Brad Scott

Hopefully not Hird but nothing would surprise me.
I think doing due diligence we would also be touching base with guys like Simpson, Hardwick, Bevo
No harm in asking although Simpson has just signed a new contract

Absolute mess
In the last 5 years though only 2 coaches but with a poor board you don’t get stability.
No one is coming until the board is sorted IMO

Only dawned on me the other night, non-Sheedy coached flags at Windy Hill in the last 57 years = 0. Granted Sheeds was there for a long time, but you'd expect that to read better for such a big club.

All bullshit aside, there's some slim pickings available atm. I'd draw a line through half of them immediately.

I know you haven't endorsed him but I think Ross Lyon is your man, if you were getting Kenny it would've happened a couple of weeks ago.

He was stepping down at end of season but I believe even though he didn’t survive the leadership spill he will still see out his term on the board. He was the key Rutten backer

All clubs have barren spells and we were no different. We went from 65 to 84 between flags then won 4 in 17 years under Sheedy with 3 losing GF’s in his tenure. Things will turn again eventually, Richmond we’re in a worse spot than us and managed it but it takes the whole club pulling in the same direction and a stable board so it’s just a matter of how long before we can drive out the current charlatans

Michael Gleeson ahs written a good article on The Age website basiclaly go though the names starting with:

Hardwick
Goodwin
Simpson
then Hinkley

All phone calls would probably end in a no but they were the identified senior experienced coaches

However, as Jim said, who would want to with the current board divided and senior admin divided.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

In this day and age, would we still see a senior coach jump from one team to another without a year off?
Seems to me they invest so much that it would be hard to switch off from the old side.

The stats post sheeds don't make for great reading though.

Bomber would have the best W-L record of those blokes wouldn't he (i.e. as Essendon coach)?

Might want to give him a ring...

If you're a coach though, you would've seen the shit show last week - would you really want to go there? Especially someone like say Hinkley - would you leave the comfort of Port to go and deal with that crap?

I agree.
The only thing that might sway him is if he has already been told he will not get a extension under any circumstance at Port (and risk being sacked mid year next year) or take 5 years on probably $1m a year at Essendon (and risk being sacked in 2 years time) :)
