The West Adelaide Football Club has announced that Senior Men’s Coach Bradley Gotch will not be reappointed for the 2023 Season. Brad comes out of contract in October 2022, and an extension has not been offered.

Brad, an experienced and successful coach at both AFL and SANFL level, has been instrumental in resetting the direction of the Mens’ teams. He has overseen the ongoing development of skills and players at West Adelaide over the last two years. Brad’s reputation and talent for nurturing players on and off the field has resulted in a stronger, more competitive and united squad, across both the League and Reserves teams.

“The Board would like to thank Brad for his professionalism and dedication to the West Adelaide Football Club, its players and its members. We wish Brad and his family all the very best at this time”.

As Brad transitions out of the role, we will commence the search for his replacement. Members and supporters will be communicated to when a new Coach is appointed.

PORT Adelaide has delisted Sam Skinner, Sam Mayes and Taj Schofield.
Will Taj join the WWT Eagles or move to join his father in WA

Or be recruited to another SANFL club that his father scarcely played at?

Daniel Menzel wins the 2022 Ken Farmer Medal as SANFL leading goal kicker.
51 for the season.
A small positive to a poor ending to the season.

Wedgie wrote:North Adelaide has secured its eighth Stanley H. Lewis Trophy and first since 2014 as SANFL’s best performed club in 2022.

In the second year of points being awarded for Women’s and U16 matches, the Roosters finished with a significant tally of 3725, ahead of runner-up Sturt with 3525.

With their Hostplus SANFL League team winning its first minor premiership since 1989 and Reserves, Under-18 and Under-16 teams all qualifying for finals, the Roosters were also fuelled by their Women’s side, which claimed its second SANFLW premiership.

Glenelg tallied 3400 to round out the top three, edging out Norwood on 2900 in fourth and fifth-placed South on 2450.

North has previously won the Stanley H. Lewis Trophy in 1966, 1967, 1971, 1972, 2005, 2006, and 2014.

The Trophy, named after past SANFL Chairman Stanley Heathcote Lewis, has been awarded since 1962 to the club which has displayed excellence across all grades of football.

Points are awarded for each win across the minor round, with 100 points allocated for a Men’s and Women’s League victory, 50 points for the Reserves and Under-18s and 25 points for the Under-16s.

In the event of a draw, half of the points allocated for a win in that grade are awarded to each club involved.

Should wait until early September and count wheelchair footy season too. Sturt's trophy for sure. Centrals and Woodville didn't have A's in the SANFL comp in 1962 so can't be any calling out of unfair advantage for Sturt because North don't have a wheelchair footy team.

In a strange world, the bottom two sides in the SANFL are probably in as good as form as, if not better than, the top two ;)

Whilst I know you're kidding North won 3 out of their last 4 by a total of 115 points, Adelaide won 2 of their last 4 by a total of 95 points, West won 2 of their last 4 by a total of 5 points and Central lost their last 5 games.
I don't quite think the bottom 2 sides are in as good as form, if not better than, the top 2 sides. ;)

True, but we ended up within a goal of three of the top five sides in those matches ;)
We are probably in as good form as Norwood, Sturt and Glenelg at present... that goes for Westies too :D

F*** applying that logic given we were within 1 pt of Centrals when the siren sounded at the end of the 2009 2nd semi final we can be considered premiers as we were almost as good as them

The reality is you were winless in the last five rounds the only team to be. There’s a strong argument that you ended the season as the worst team in the comp.

So genuine question do you want share your 2009 flag or acknowledge where you are really at in the 2022 season?
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

WA

PA 7-12
WA 12-9

WA 8-9
GL 9-12

WA 10-8
SA 8-15

NA 11-7
WA 10-7

WA 8-9
NW 7-14

That is a good finish to the season
The last 2 weeks was exceptional
They lost by 6 points against the flag favourite at Prospect
Then they beat NW a team that had not lost a game for a long time

Yes, over the full season, we definitely deserved to finish ninth. However, the upswing in form by both West and Central in the final few weeks of the season, when neither had anything to play for, has me feeling more confident about the chances of those two clubs in 2023 than a currently stumbling Glenelg who appear to have their best days behind them.

????

So going 0-5 is better than 3-2 in the last five rounds

O-Kay and you were beaten by a team that you rate as “stumbling”

You’re right about West though I’ll give you that given they went 3-2

The positive from the dogs is we didn’t check out this season like we have in other seasons.

Yes we finished 0-5 but the guys had started to play with some consistency so I can see why there is a tad of optimism.

In saying that the guys won the same amount of games last year so no matter what way you spin it with stats good or bad we are only talking microscopic improvements/decline from last year.

If I’m looking for other positives it’s that the guys are playing for Thommo IMO, given they didn’t check out. I’m still not sold his capable of taking us to a premiership and I do fear if he starts next year 0-3 or something the club could be back in turmoil with a club legends position in doubt.

Personally I was hoping for more wins than last year……this didn’t happen so for me the year was not a pass mark. Especially given we best Westies twice. We were clearly not good enough against sides higher on the ladder albeit we were competitive at times.

Already hearing depth might be tested again with a few fringe types being open to other offers from country/ammos

Don't think that will be an issue next year.

With the first full time dedicated Football Manager appointed in club history, he will be focusing on recruitment and retention and adding to the squad depth will come naturally with that.
