'84 wouldn't have happened that way if Alan Stringer had not gone berserk in the Qualifying Final though. Glenelg lost Peter Carey and Central lost their whole half back line through suspension (Hannan, Nolan and Thomas) as a result of reacting to Alan Stringer throwing a series of haymakers (can't believe he didn't get pinged but four others did!). Instead, the third best team that year ended up with the flag

Agreed, a bit similar to Chris and James Gowans. Wonderful people off the field, terrific players on it, but boy did the three of them ever suffer from white line fever!
