Talk on the national game

Surprised that there has been no comment about the inclusion of AA umpires last night. While I don’t have a huge issue with that, I wonder if that is better recognized at the umpires awards? The 3 umps last night looked a little uncomfortable with it to me.

It did have me thinking, surely this team (not that they actually play) needs a coach. So why not name the AA coach too?

Why stop there? The AA team surely needs:- Runner, Physio, Fitness Coach, Forward, Back & Mids coaches , CEO, list manager, property steward, boot studder, media manager….. then there’s the very important category of Bogan fan - just think who could be in line for selection here.. the likes of Catman, Joffa, that old bloke from the swans, hell who knows, maybe even our own 119 guernsey wearing site admin… ;)
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

I know AA is now built into player contacts etc so it has a level of performance but this kind of stuff is just for the media.

Sells papers, creates content, engages hits, likes, reacts.

It’s just a clever marketing scheme to have more talking points about the game increasing the leverage of the AFL.

The players are judged upon (somewhat) measurable performances. How do the umpires get selected?

I agree about the coach but don't agree with everything else (realising it was tongue in cheek).

Isn't Kath the one that was the subject of Tom Morris' texts that saw him sacked from Fox Footy???

Same. I reckon Cripps should have been captain. He has a Selwood like ability to will his team over the line and nearly did it again on Sunday.

Gawn for me too. 6 time all Australian is some feat.

I don't understand giving it to someone who isn't captain of their club. However I assume one day there will be no club captain selected to give it to. Till then, it should go to the most appropriate club captain. For me, that's Gawny. In fact I'd go as far as saying that it is a bit of a snub not to give it to him.

I have no issue with it at all. This team doesn't play a match so the captain call isn't that important. Gawn was skipper last year, share the love. Its a great honour to a statesman of the game who is pretty well universally loved within the comp.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.
