He isnt that good is he?

I still maintain 5 year contracts should be the maximum and they should be for the very elite only

Contracts aren’t worth what they once were, see Grundy, Treloar etc.
You need to throw big money and contract lengths to attract players.
Going to start seeing more and more salary dumps and creative initiatives in the coming years

They aren't but they do secure you bargaining power if the player decides to leave mid contract. If you lure him over for 2 or 3, and then they decide to move, you haven't really got any position of power. So I get it but at the same time, I'd be loathe to offer more than 5 years as form fluctuates through player contracts.

Biggest Auskick growth in the country and can’t get new ovals quick enough such is the demand. Every new development comes with a football oval up there and rugby fields are being converted.
Listening to a talent scout recently and QLD are starting to see the results come through and some are predicting that within a few years QLD will be dominating SA, WA and even the Vics at national carnivals

Dreaming. if QLD gets within 10 goals of the above in the national carnival they have done well.

Boys (u15 National)

Girls (u15 National)

Dreams come true UK fan, the $$$ are talking. Girls team were miles ahead of the other states.

Not quite the same.. but interesting to see 3 of the last 4 sides in the VFL finals are from QLD.

What AFL need is true free agency where clubs can trade players against their wishes and it's up to the club if they can convince them to stay. It is so heavily weighted in the players favour right now.

Am I missing something? Clubs can trade players against their wishes and convince them to stay?

I don't think true free agency would benefit the AFL. The issue with free agency is compensation. Transfers in soccer are financially based, that doesn't work for the AFL. Draft picks then impact upon everyone else so that doesn't work.

I agree the players have too much power, but I think that's probably* better than the clubs having too much power. If that was the case the strong just get stronger.

I think every junior footballer in Australia should select the club they barrack for when they register for under 14's which in turn should have some sort of weight when it comes to the draft.

Obviously it won't mean a thing to 95% of the kids but I feel for the lads that get picked up when they're 18 and shipped off to another state in unfamiliar surroundings, it must be pretty daunting.

My lad is 17 and pretty outgoing but I think he'd struggle in this type of circumstance, I don't blame the young lads for wanting to jump ship and head back home at their first opportunity.
