The dead cricket after a result has been achieved in two day games has long been a point of contention in every competition.

Here's my radical idea to fix it:

As soon as a first innings result has been achieved on Day 2 the first innings is finished.

The remaining overs in the day are split equally between the teams. This becomes a second "mini game" itself with bonus points on offer for winning the second innings mini game.

A traditional outright win only on the table if a first innings result is achieved on Day 1

Like it.....kind of also might cater a bit for the guys who want to have a bit of a slap....t20 style if overs are split around that amount.

Cricket is just less appealing to people nowadays, back in the day we'd rush home from school to watch the last session, the whole family would sit down and watch the cricket all day Sunday, we were raised on it.

The young lads of today find it boring, everyone is time poor and it's mainly the older generation that still prefer the longer version, we're all getting older now and the new younger folk are taking over, they want to have a hit and bowl then be done with it, cricket has lost it's class, it's pizzazz, it's craft, it used to be a mind game where you won with strategies, now everyone wants to win by belting as many runs as you can in a short space of time.

Eyre Royals the masters of flying under the radar.. never asked to fill a gap in Grade 1 after making finals, B grade continue to remain in a much weaker Grade 3 after consecutive GF's :D :P

Didn't they finish 4th in Grade 2 last season?

They are hardly Grade 1 calibre, North Pines nearly beat them and the Gardens beat them. They aren't ready to go to Grade 1.

It's interesting isn't it.....T20 was meant to be somewhat the savior to increase interest/popularity and therefore participation rates and financial funding in cricket.

Whilst it has done that somewhat at the elite levels the increased attendances/tv viewers hasn't equaled increased junior participation rates. I wonder if that is because at a ammo/country level both juniors and seniors T20 isn't ideal to replicate. I mean who wants to train once/twice a week and then maybe get a bat for 5 overs or at most get to bowl 4 overs. especially if you've still given up 3-4 hours including travel time, pack up/pack down. Its almost impossible to get everyone involved in a game of t20.

I'm not sure anyone has the magic answer but its a massive problem.

Bleedredandblue will know but will it be a competitive EP team with the likes of Easy, Banksy, Mozza, Nug etc or is it more the b grade lads from last year playing up so the club can have a team given they have to have a div1 side.

I'm thinking more of the latter, my lad gets asked 2-3 times a week to go out there for a hit.

T20 has killed community cricket.

Yeah people are time poor I get that, but with the increase in shorter formats etc people have lost the tolerance / patience / interest in playing longer formats. In the day if you wanted to play cricket you had two choices - play the format on offer, or dont play at all..

People don't want to train, people don't want to field.. they just want to rock up and a bat and bowl and go home... or in the case of some of our members, play a T20, then go play another one.. then another one
