Averages 26, from 24 innings (2 not outs), with a high score of 62.

Average 27 in his 8 test innings over there. Not sure he would be a great selection for the Ashes.

He has to survive the Indian tour first.

It was a bloody good 62 though.

Prime Minister's XI squad to play the West Indies in Canberra, November 23-26-
Josh Inglis (c), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Peter Handscomb, Aaron Hardie, Marcus Harris, Henry Hunt, Todd Murphy, Michael Neser, Matt Renshaw, Mark Steketee.

Strong squad.

I agree, I'm not sure that I see the point of Neser, Abbot, Agar or Harris but I'm sure they have their reasons.

I'd reserve it for the up and comings, Harris has had enough chances, Agar won't ever play test cricket again and Abbott will never get a gig, Steakette would be next in line behind Boland now I'd imagine, Neser is a bit of an early Brett Lee, would get a gig anywhere else in the world but can't quite get in the side permanently.

Boland has probably been our best performer over the past 12-18 months and can't crack the XI either, tough time to be a quick.

It's basically Australia A and it's good Albanese (Lol) picked a 'first choice' team.

Agar is actually a chance to play in Australia's tour of India next year, he was a part of the tour of Sri Lanka recently but after being a chance to play got injured.

Neser, Steketee and to a lesser extent Abbott are just a part of a long line of very decent fast bowlers Australia have had in this era, it's just unfortunate for them (and Boland) they're behind 3 absolutely world class bowlers all playing at the same time. It was similar when McGrath, Lee and Gillespie were playing and Aus had Bichel and Kasprowicz as the back ups taking a shitload of wickets for Queensland plus there was Riffel and Julian off the top of my head plus no doubt others getting around at the time too.

I'd almost have Agar ahead of Swepson who didn't impress me much in the subcontinent.

Jhye Richardson must be made of tissue paper, he breaks a nail and they keep him out for a month.

It would be nice if Starc wasn't an automatic selection in the test side by the end of this summer.

Almost have Agar ahead of Swepson? Who are you and what have you done with AE? :)

Richardson out of the current Shield match with a heel injury.

Had to google a few of those players, safe to say they wouldn't be keeping the Aussie team up at night.

Yep they've had a decent turnover of players lately, especially batsmen where they are very light on. Still looking forward to seeing how their pace attack goes in Australian conditions against the Aussie batsmen.

Still have a quality pace attack with Rababa, Nortje, Ngidi and Jansen. There batting will struggle to make 200 though, it's very weak. Least they will put up a fight unlike the windies.

Warner announces he will retire from test cricket after the Ashes.

Extremely smart by him...... knows he could struggle to hold his spot in the team until then so come out early and announce your retirement which will all but guarantee they let him play until then.

Slight correction he 'plans to retire' within the next 12 months.

Sounds like he hasn't fully made his mind up yet.

Sorry that is correct....reheard the radio news. They said most likely will be test cricket he gives up first.

Either way i think his bought himself 12 months to go out on his terms with a very low risk of being dropped.

Cummins will not be nominating for IPL next year.

I look forward to a well-rested Captain going to England.

At a guess we won't play them in Perth then?
