Things that you rate!

I think every Australian should respect the effort put up by the Australian soccer team in this World Cup.
If we didnt have Australian Rules Football as the main national game, just imagine how much more competitive Australia could be.

If we have a look at the Soccer thread title on this site, its called The World Game , and there's a justifiable reason for that.
But I do much prefer watching the Aussie Rules game to the World game

Firstly, it's no coincidence the AFL dropped it when they did and every person tweeting or commenting on socials about it vindicates the timing. Marketing at its finest.

Malinauskas pulling the nuclear card then getting slapped down by Albo
He obviously thinks no-one remembers the Weatherill farcical RC
They were together doing a photoshoot in the Riverland on the weekend. Too busy taking pics to talk about it

Another setup but Albo's got form (probably veggie steaks at that)

At 6am on a Sunday morning? Just petty look at me behaviour. I bet they wouldn't put out a media release at that time if a Collingwood player did something silly!

winter sports should be irrelevant in the media after October 31. Build up again in February

Not sure it's the best look. I haven't even bothered to look at the fixture. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
And 6am on a Sunday, the precedent been set for future now with that timeslot for the release.
But of course the AFL are threatened with the growing numbers in junior soccer, although Gil and co. won't admit that.

The young fella batting as well as he ever has yesterday morning.

First year under 14 (3 months too old for 12s) coming in at 11 with the side 7 for 70 or there abouts after 28 overs (out of 45) chasing 213.

Got dropped early, but managed to keep his head down and retire twice whilst letting the bigger/better hitters face the majority of the balls. Reckon he was out in the centre well over an hour (I'd suggest 15 mins would have been his longest stay beforehand). He was part of the last 2 that needed 22 off the last 3 overs and 11 off the last- and fell an agonizing 3 runs short.

14* off 36 balls doesnt sound great but for a quiet kid who usually lacks a bit of game awareness it was amazing. Came off after the last ball disappointed and drenched, but at least knowing he can play to the level.

Getting the chance to congratulate Tom Bryce personally for his umpiring performance in the 2019 SANFL GF on the weeekend.

I'd have put it in the actual 2019 GF thread but someone has locked it.... ;)

You're kidding, right?

A League TV rights - 5 years, $200m, on Channel 10's second string channel average around 8000 per game

AFL TV rights - 7 years, $4.5bn, on Channel 7, Kayo and Fox average around 30,000 per game

*Edit

The AFL dropped it when they did knowing most Aussies give a shit about the round ball for 2 weeks every 4 years.

Like Melbourne Cup horse racing protesters, they disappear as soon as the race is over.

But before they disappear they say things like "we were gallant, we should be proud, can't wait for the next world cup".........................but nothing seems to change.
And some say the AFL is run poorly.

I think it was pretty poor by the AFL, but also don't think it was deliberate, just clumsy - it was announced via the Herald Sun which would have been in the planning for weeks.

Bloody oath it was deliberate.

FL whole marketing strategy is the off season is to have content to challenge the other codes for column inches and media time.

Its why the AFLW goes into cricket season rather than against the mens season, it's why the drat is scheduled as well.

They knew it wouldn't trump it but would fill up the social media pages and media stories for the day.

This wasn't an individual in marketing this is a planned strategy for the last 10 -20 years.
