There won’t be any emergency field umpires so if there’s an injury, they’ll revert back to three.
Nine field umpires have been promoted ahead of next season, AFL will have a senior list of 40-42.

They are trailing it in the NTFL this year. Last week was week one of four where four of the 2022 AFL umpires were flown up (including two of their coaches) to trial the new system.

In JH's words (#17) they're going to get "funky" with some of their positioning to be more boundary side so they making decisions that align with what the crowd sees and to free up the corridor.

Based on week one, get used to lots of free free kicks

Same argument is being used as going from two to three, will reduce the physical demands on umpires which will help keep the experienced umpires in the game longer. So, expect to see Rosebery, Stevic, Nicholls and Razor for a little while longer yet.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Makes sense to play that game up there.
Would resemble a Sheffield Shield crowd if it was held at AO, should pack out Mt Barker

I thought a stipulation was that the grounds had to have no cricket pitch?

That's pretty ingenious, would be 75% North supporters and would give it a pretty full atmosphere, it will make it a closer contest.

Ideally yes, but pick a regional ground that doesn't have a cricket pitch? This ground is modern with perfect drainage so Im guessing they can get the pitch pretty well blending with the rest of the oval by April.

Ironic that an AFL game will be played on there before the local league even uses it as a Grand Final venue.

Put the mats down with cones around it? Call for a ball up when it gets too close to it.
