I didnt mind Eddie's suggested AFL season changes, makes alot of sense, all games woul dhave meaning right until the very end of the season.
The only time where teams may tank is the 3 match, groups of 6, round of matches. it wasnt made clear if you take points earnt in the first 19 rounds into this or if you are all on zero.
I like that there is alot more finals and more evenly matched games late in the season

17 rounds, play each other once
R18 rivalry round
R19 gather round, drawn out of hat but cant be a repeat of any r18 games

R20-22
1-6 play each other in 3 matches 1vs 6,5 and 4 etc
7-12
13-18

elimination weekend/prefinals bye
15v 18 and 16v 17, losers eliminated

finals start
2 groups of 8
1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15
2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16
exactly the same format as the final 8 now

Grand Final
the two winners from each group
Supercoach Spring Racing Champion 2019
Spargo's Good Friday Cup Champion 2020

In short. No.

This is all on the basis of TV rights and keeping the season 'entertaining'. At the end of the day, mediocre teams won't make it and good ones will. Why keep up the pretense when your team has zero chance of making it?

So 22 rounds then 2 finals, 8 finals the next weekend, 4 finals the next, 4 finals the next, 2 the next then 1 for the GF. 28 weeks plus at least one bye. 29 weeks and two sets of finals where anyone, literally anyone including 18th could win the flag.

lol @ anyone who likes that idea.

With the talk of Tassie being in you'd think it may be possible to have a 20th team also?

If it gets to that would be good to see a 19 game season where everyone plays each other once. Reverse the fixture for the following year. Fair draw, each game has more meaning. Of course they will never do it.
