Handscombe average 28 and Renshaw averaged 29 in India.

Not the worst performances on the planet but definitely not worth knocking out a red hot Trav Head to start to the series.

Renshaw played quite well last time we toured India. Did a very good job as opener under the circumstances. Was a while ago but if you're selecting based on past form in India then he'd be in.

I still hold question marks on his ability overseas but his runs in Australia are undeniable. It's frustrating to watch when it doesn't work, very entertaining when it does.

The question will be how sustainable is it.

Interestingly there seems to be a bit of a movement in test cricket at the moment. Thinking England, thinking Risabah Pant, thinking Head. I think at some point though bowlers may work something out.

I've never not liked Head, like I've mentioned before ive known Trav a long time and we would have beers together on the odd occasion we have bumped into one another.

My question marks on him has been his attitude to batting at test level and his ability away from home. The freedom his batting with at the moment is currently working for him and rightfully keeps in in the team. If or more likely when his hot form runs out its going to be interesting to see how he deals with it and whether he will keep playing shots from ball one.

I probably wouldnt have had him in the team for the first Ashes test last year but he more than justified his selection. He now needs to find a formula that works away from Australia.

The northern suburb boys have been holding up the national sides for far too long now....any chance other places in SA could produce some talent.

Agree RB, Whufc it was a reasonably low scoring series for both teams and Handscomb and Renshaw did ok for a point of reference.

Renshaw in as opener for Warner then albeit he hasn't done a lot of opening in recent times.

Interestingly George Bailey has hinted Trav Head could play a different role over in India.

Speculation is rife he will go into the opening position with Warner to be dropped.

That'd be dumb if they did that.

Head isn't an opener and it also creates a void at no5. Just find an opener and be done with it.

Head can play as the second spinner and any runs he scores is just a bonus. Swepson is not it.

Renshaw
Khawaja
Marnus
Smith
Green
Carey
Handscomb (shield form)
Head
Cummins
Hazlewood/Boland
Lyon
Dave Warner will be missed!

Like it....i would go Starc over Boland and Hazelwood. The pacemen are only going to bowl small 4 over spells....might as well have Starc come in, attack the stumps and try and snatch a wicket imo.

We'd wanna score big, we won't be bowling them out for less than 500.

Is Head much worse than whoever our second spinner would be.

I mean if they produce massive turners Head could turn into Michael Clarke on those wickets with the ball.

I don’t think Head’s half trackers will worry Kohli and his merry men too much!

No, but our second spinner is ions behind our first and Lyon doesn't have the greatest record against India.

He's had very good and very bad days in India and the UK, I know I can bag him at times but he's a vital cog to our attack.

Personally, I think Maxwell is more than capable with the ball and his fielding is exquisite, it was disappointing that he injured himself when he was genuinely interested in wearing the baggy green.

I have a strong dislike of Renshaw, a bit of a tosser by all reports, Hanscomb is the in form batter of the domestic level.

Agree which is why I would contemplate using Head as the second spinner (which could turn out alright) and then potentially playing the extra batter.

However, i think the selectors will go with Swepson sadly who imo has been 'ok'

A left arm orthadox spinner would be perfect if there was one. Move the ball a different way to Lyon and traditional have done better than the leggies.
