Nothing to be gained by doing so, so let Uzzie get his double ton.

Huh….you gain extra overs in the game.

They would have killed for extra overs in the last Sydney test.

Yeh, if the series was still in the balance, I'd say declare too.

WTC is where it’s at these days. :D

It's highly unlikely that a couple of overs is going to cost us.

The other part of not declaring is the pitch is likely to be at its best for bowling in that first half an hour whilst all the moisture is still in the pitch. Would be surprised to see it seem heaps early on

Might be the wrong thread.

But where do South Africa go from here?
They clearly going through a rebuild, but are they in for years of pain or can they bounce back quick.
Dean Elgar, has really struggled this series as Captain, with his tactics etc. Is there a logical replacement for him coming through?

In fairness to them they’ve had a good year except for this series against us.

They’re batting is awful but there bowling attack will make them a difficult team at home.

If they can find 150 runs (the scoring 350) they will be a decent(ish) side.

The positive to them is that it’s one element of their game batting that’s completely broken, they could do with a spinner but they don’t need one at home and I’m confident Harmen will be decent on sub continent pitches.
